  1. For me the biggest problem is the lack of local hobbies shops. What got me into RC's was seeing them in my local Beatties store as a kid. Now there are virtually no stores dedicated to RC's. Where I live I only know of one store and I live in a large city. Not having the ability to walk into a store and being able to talk to somebody is a huge factor why parents are less willing to invest in what is a lot of money into this hobby.
  2. So after taking your advice I was seriously considering buying a HoBao Hyper VS 1/8th. However part of my enjoyment of RC's is the tinkering. Truth be told there times I love the strip down, upgrading and rebuilding more then the bashing lol. I loved buildung and modifying my Savage X SS when I had it all those years ago. So, there I was browsing ebay and I have seen a few Savage Rolling Chassis for around £100 and I got to wondering, how about buying a rolling chassis and convert it to electric. For a conversion what kind of things would you need to do, is there a particular model of Savage to buy.. what type of Motor/ESC to buy, do the diffs need to be changed etc... Budget wouldn't be an issue as I would do the conversion over a period of months so the cost would spread out. The conversion really appeals to me but having never done anything like before I have no real idea what is involved.
  3. I had a look at the HoBao Hyper VS which would put me about £30 over budget, that's with everything, car, charger, pair off 7.4v Lipos 2s etc.. and the Hpi Trophy Buggy Flux which with same Lipo's would put me about £50 over budget. I would be prepared to pay the extra if im going to get a better car
  4. Yeah the £400 pounds needs to includes everything so car, charger, lipo's etc.. I have always liked the truggy style but will happily consider others as well. If you dont mind me asking what have you heard about the bullet? I know some people have complained about losing drive shafts but after owning 2 HPI cars I always put this down to a HPI design flaw on all their cars, plus its a easy fix.
  5. I have been out of the RC scene for over 8 years now and im now looking to get back into it. I used to own a HPI MT2 and Savage X SS. I posted a few days ago for ideas and after reading the replies and doing some more research I have decided that going electric is the best option for me. I am looking to spend no more then £400 on the car and accessories, with a good parts and after market supply. It will be used purely for bashing on grass fields with muddy patches and big jumps.. no racing. Waterproofing is also important. I have seen the Bullet ST and have to admit it looks good and fits the bill but reviews seem to be thin on the ground. Any feedback on this car or any other which you feel would suit would be much appreciated. Cheers
  6. To clarify I am looking to spend no more then say £300 if possible. As I said it will be mainly used on grass fields, lots of jumps and thinking about it muddy patches. I love tinkering, wife always said I got more joy stripping them down and fixing them then actually bashing lol
  7. Hey all. Due to kids and life in general I have been out of the RC Car scene for over 8 years now. I used to own a HPI MT2 and HPI Savage X SS kit. Both cars were heavily modified. I never raced, just loved to bash, building ramps etc.. I am looking at getting back into things but have no idea were really to start. I am looking at the low end to begin with, start small, good value but fun and can be modified. I have looked at electric but not sure if it is for me. I love the smell and tinkering that you can have with nitro engines. I have never used a electric rc car. All my experience has been with HPI but I have noticed that modelshops seem to be having stocking issues which is a worry, not sure what is going on there. So yeah, looking for something low cost to get me started again but can be easily modified and has a good supply of spare parts. It will be mostly used on grass fields and the occasional dirt track. I will consider electric. All ideas welcome, many thanks
  8. Hi all, Hope you all had a merry xmas I am after advice on what new nitro car to buy I have a HPI MT2 and a Savage 4.6X SS but I haven't used either for nearly two years now. The little patter of tiny feet meant I had to put the RC sides of things on hold for awhile. The MT2 is a lost cause now and the Savage, as good as it is, is overkill for what I want. My problem is that after nearly two away from Nitro RC's, I am completely out of touch on what's new. I live near the sea so I am look for something which would be good for running on a good firm beach So long as it is fairly fast, parts are common, and can handle the odd jump here and there I'll be happy. I would prefer a 1/8th scale. My preference is a truggy over a truck... not for any other reason then I prefer the look of them If you could all kindly point me in the general direction of a few cars I would be most happy Cheers all
