RCbutcher
Hello, I have an amp that I just cannot hook up to my TV or console as they don't support scart. Is there a small usb deck type thing I can just plug into the amp as aux? I've just brought a freeview box with usb port on it but ide rather have something that's discrete and if possible not plugged into the mains but I doubt that's possible. But with the freeview box presuming it will hook up together will that allow me to play the TV audio through my hifi? Cos it has wifi so I could just put youtube on and have the audio through my big speakers. I didn't think about usb when I brought the hifi which was recent so I don't fancy getting another tbh. Just make this play from a usb and or play TV audio.
turok007
lets see a picture of the back of amp as it must have a input that will work. Edited March 23, 2015 by turok007
ostewart
Pics of the amp and also the freeview box as above, I might be able to help. I'm guessing the easiest thing would be to take the audio out of the TV, as the freeview box won't have an audio out put I don't think. does the TV have a headphone out, or even s/pdif optical out? chester-lad
One of them may be the lead . But as above post images of the items you want to connect up . And will help you out .
RCbutcher
The freeview box turned out to be a dud the usb doesn't recognise anything. It was a cheap refurb tho so ill chase that. I've just ordered a 2m optical cable but I can only connect that to my cd deck so don't see how that will play TV sound but ill be happy if it will. TV has these ports, plus a common interface big slot for a card I think. I've called Mr sheen too lol. She's not answering. Here's the back of the amp and cd deck. Just amp Then the ps4 has optical out and also an aux port I don't recognise looks a little like usb but not. But the ps4 is connected to the TV with hdmi anyway so pointless I think. ostewart
Take either the headphone out of the TV with a 3.5mm jack to RCA cable. Or get yourself a DAC and use the optical out to the DAC then from the DAC to the amp. I'll post a link with a compatible DAC. A DAC would be better SQ wise, and you could hook the PS4 straight to it too.

RCbutcher
So that will take the sound out of the TV through headphone jack and put it straight onto the amp with no loss is volume or clarity? I got my optical cable through today if that can do anything in the mean time.
RCbutcher
Cool I just tried a 3.5mm to rca from my phone and that works but only through one speaker and it's real basey
ostewart
I trust you have It all plugged in correctly? For optical you'll need the DAC Edited March 28, 2015 by ostewart
ostewart
Double check all your connections if its only coming out of 1 speaker. And make sure the RCA is plugged into the aux

ostewart
I'd swap all the channels to find out why one side is not working. Swap the inputs and also the speaker wires to find the source of your problem.
RCbutcher
I've tried mate I think it must be the signal from the phone. Which is weird Bcos it allows two headphones ect. Just not the stereo. But both stereo speakers work when it's cd. I still need to order the dac but can't find one on ebay for ease.
