My grandson has a small Maverick (ION DT) car. Although the car is pretty robust, the build quality of the controller is less impressive and it has now failed and need replacing. Given the quality issue, I cant see the point of buying an identical controller. I know virtually nothing about RC cars, so please bear with me if my questions appear daft!

Money is in short supply this Christmas, so:

1)      Is it possible and/or sensible to try to find a second had controller ? If so where would I begin looking? 

2)      How will I know if it is compatible with the car?

3)      If second hand is impossible, can anyone recommend a reasonable quality, but not too expensive brand I could search out,and a possible supplier (preferably near stoke-on-trent)?

My grandson has an Ion that brings him lots of pleasure. However, the controller is acting up. The red led, which flashes when the batteries are getting low, begins to flash a few seconds after new batteries are loaded and the controller then fails. We have tried various different types of battery but the fault remains. 

Help please!!

I bought a Binergy  28408 1500mah pack at christmas and have used it for around 30 minutes once or twice a week since. 6 months later, when fully charged using a functioning charger, it is behaving as though nearly depleted -i.e. working ,  stopping after a  couple of minutes, then working again after a couple of minutes, then stopping again and so on. The car works perfectly with a different battery. 

 

Is this life-span normal?

A guy at the local track recommended that I replace the nylon gears with metal ones (see picture) . I can only find metal replacements for the small  gears on the end of the main drive shaft not the main nylon one in the diffs.  Would a metal main drive shaft gear damage the nylon one in the diff? Can I safely run with gears made from different materials?

My grandson's Maverick has developed a mysterious intermittent cracking, clicking or snapping sound. By disconnecting the rear wheel drives I have isolated it to the front end. It becomes louder and more frequent when accelerating sharply.  The car still drives and there is no obvious damage to the front gears or dogbones that I can spot. However, he did break the plastic ring at the bottom of one of the springs on a shock absorber recently.

Has anyone got any ideas what might be causing  the noise?

Another beginners question.  My grandson's small Maverick  has damage to the rear drive of one wheel. Will the car still run ok  if I simply remove both rear wheel dogbones and have front wheel drive only until spare parts arrive , or will this cause more damage??

I must say, I don't understand what role those bearings play since they appear to be fixed solid. Do they just act as oil seals?

Please excuse me if this enquiry seems pitifully simple. I bought my 6 year old grandson a maverick ION DT  for Xmas and discovered that as soon as he started crashing it, I needed to become competent at repairing the thing! I confess I have begun to quite enjoy doing it.

 

However, he has developed a problem in the rear diff (MV 28016) one wheel no longer spins properly.  I have the diff out, but cannot easily remove the bearings 28030 and am scared of breaking the whole assembly. Can anyone advise how to get the bearings off  please? Is it just brute force and a pair of pliers?  And what should the whole assembly be Iubricated with when I put it back together?
