  1. Hi Guys. Took the top off the transmission on my Savage X. The gears are dry in there with no lubrication. Is this right? Can't see anything in the manual about this. Should I lube them? If so what should I use ? TIA
  2. Postie delivered the replacement bits this morning - excellent service from Mirage Racing & MSUK I've found the post on how to mesh the gears correctly when re-installing the engine, but can anyone help on how to remove all the old dry threadlock that is fouling the bolts and tapped holes on the engine mount?
  3. I think what you need to do is replace the steering wheel on the controller with another lever that can be operated with the thumb. Maybe with some kind of cup on the end that your thumb can fit into so it doesn't slip off with sudden movement. Maybe you could email the manufacturers/distributors of the radio kit and see if they have done this before or can offer advise. I would expect there are others who enjoy RC with similar issues.
  4. Don't know about an individual charger - but for my Savage I bought this : http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...mp;ItemID=24135 comes with a mains only charger that will charge the hump pack, your transmitter (if it allows in unit recharging) and a 7.2v stick pack. Seemed much better value that the HPI battery.
  5. The bolts which held the motor in the chassis took some getting out. I have a bottle of threadlock which I intend to use when I put the motor back in, but should I clean up the bolts and the thread on the motor before I put it back in the chassis - there is quite a bit of dried threadlock on them. Also, any tips on how to get the gear mesh right when I put the motor back? Cheers
  6. I emailed MSUK and they forwarded it on to their distributer. Got an email back today saying they will send me out the replacement parts. Excellent - top work fellas :good:
  7. Hi guys. I recently noticed that the roto start mechanism on my Savage X was loose. I took the motor out and was disappointed to find that the engine cover plate (part no. 1426) and the roto start case (87119) were damaged. Pics below show that the screw holding the roto start to the cover plate has pulled out and broke the corner off the cover plate. Also, the plastic case for the roto start has cracked in another corner. There was only one screw holding the whole thing on! I know that you expect parts to break on nitro RC cars, but I've only had this since 7th April – and in that time I've only had time to put about ½ litre of fuel through it! The motor is only just getting run in. Do you think that I could get these parts replaced FOC under guarantee? If I have to pay for the new bits then should I buy something else, like a pull start (Stock Nitro Star 4.1 motor)? If so, any links to what I should be looking at? Cheers fellas.
  8. Read the breaking in guide her on the forums and warmed up the engine (gently with an electric paint stripper!) before trying to start this evening. Worked first time and I've now run my first tank of fuel through the motor - cheers fellas :D
  9. I would think that Plastic parts can be dyed using "vinyl dye" - I've not used these on RC parts, but I have used them on computer cases with great effect. These come in spray cans and work by penetrating the plastic surface and dying the actual material, not coating the surface like a paint. Some examples here: https://www.usautomotive.co.uk/store/script...p?idCategory=59 Halfords also do something they call "flexible vinyl paint". This is a penetrating dye also, but they don't have the colour range that VHT have.
  10. Hi folks Just bought myself a Savage X at the weekend - feeling a little vulnerable as I've yet to get the beast to start I've a couple of electric buggies and an electric Traxxas Stampede, but this is my first foray into the world of nitro. Hope you folks are friendly as I think I may be coming here for lots of
