  1. Really? Can't see it on the site, do you have a link? Would bind to a Core RC Receiver ok?
  2. Thanks again, my attention is drawn to the little 1/18 Maverick range at the minute. Kids have had a look at them online with me and think they are smart. One is keen on RCs but the other not so - turns out this is because of the controller style. Both are used to using mine (sticks) and the one who is unsure doesn't really get on with current (wheel) style of controller. So that's a whole other task (and potential expense) of deciding on wheel or sticks. Could perhaps get myself an ultra cheap wheel type to bind to my car and let them (and me for that matter) try it.
  3. Thanks. One of my twins had a go with it yesterday and commented " it's a bitt funny on the steering Dad !!! ". He's actually getting the hang of it but it's on sticks !!!
  4. Thanks to everyone for your input, thoughts and suggestions. Plenty for me to go at. The consensus appears to be Losi Mini 8ight, Tamiya Mad Bull, Maverick range, and LC Racing. I will do some research and have a look. Boys will also get to look at MS website over the coming weeks/months - I'll just happen to be browsing and let them have a look. Ultimately as they are twins, they both need to have fundamentally the same car, so if one has a Firestorm the other can't have a Mini 8ight! Just won't work like that, hence either 2x the same or something like these Mavericks: all virtually the same, http://www.modelsport.co.uk/maverick-rc-electric-models/rc-car-manufacturers/1163/9900/990010&MSAttributeID[82]=9 (Am actually quite tempted in getting myself a Losi Mini 8ight !!!)
  5. My boys have been loving the fact that I've got my Mardave up and running with new gear and they've both been actively interested in how it works, so with Christmas looming (yes I know it's still early but with twins you need to plan ahead!) I'm considering getting them an R/C car. So what can you recommend based on: 10 year old boys (twins) with little experience of RC cars (only driving mine under supervision) Ideally buggy, truggy or truck Something that's going to last and withstand some damage from bashing Can be 2WD or 4WD, not real preference Initially not interested in modifying but ability to improve/hop up over time depending on longevity Looking for complete RTR Budget -
  6. Yeah it is slightly twitchy but OK. Once I've done the soldering, gearing is next on the list.
  7. All sorted now and working a dream. First up got the new receiver plugged in and working with the existing motor/msc - that went in without a hitch, quick test run and all was fine. I then decided that I was going to swap out the MSC and servo for the new ESC - again that went into no problem. By the time I'd got that far, I thought "what the heck" and decided to do the new motor. Had to go for an unorthodox connection method as I didn't have a soldering iron, so have temporarily used spade connectors onto the motor terminals. Did a quick run with existing gearing and it was great. Tidied up the setup - double sided tape on the receiver and ESC, cable tied the wiring up, and put the receiver antenna into a safe place. Really does work a treat and much slicker. Haven't played about with the ESC settings yet, have left it stock for the time being. Thanks again all
  8. Thanks to both you and nitroholic, really useful. I think we are nearly there, not going to run with the new engine just yet but going to get the ESC and GHz system up and running first. Hopefully it should be plug and play !
  9. Replacement on it's way back to me today - receiver was faulty, they've replaced and ready bound it to the transmitter.
  10. Had an issue with the GHz system - it's had to go back as the receiver wouldn't bind, waiting for replacement. Currently running MSC so have throttle servo lead, steering servo lead and power lead into receiver. When I install the new receiver should I just ditch the MSC and go straight for the ESC? If so, does the receiver need power or does that come from the ESC (and main battery)?
  11. Ordered the Etronix motor and Modelsport ESC - all arrived but got to get my GHz system working first
  12. Have now upgraded to the Core RC Code setup but it wont bind. Does the Rx have a light? When connected up the steering servo "glitches" so suggests there is power going through but holding the bind button does nothing. The red light on the Tx doesn't change to green. Any thoughts?
  13. That's really great info, thanks. I had taken a look at the Mtronics Sniper and thought it would be ok, at least that confirms I was largely on the right path! Happy to stay brushed at the mo, and not going to get into racing as I simply don't have the time. Will take a look at those engine links. I guess I could run stock until I'm ready to switch the engine with the ESC?
  14. Tamiyacowboy thanks for the comprehensive reply. It's just for fun/bashing so not looking for anything special. Motor is the stock one it came with, brushed. Running standard NiMH batteries. Am upgrading to GHz from crystals so wanted to do mods together. If I wanted to upgrade to ESC and improved motor which ones would you recommend? Thanks
  15. Would I benefit from upgrading from a mechanical speed controller to an electronic one in my Mardave V12? If so, which ESC would be suitable. Thanks
  16. Any thoughts on the Core range: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/core-rc-code-2.4ghz-3-channel-fhss-lcd-stick-combo/rc-car-products/38217 Whilst the Flysky looks a good bit of kit, it has to be sticks I'm afraid. Was brought up on sticks, have tried wheels but really can't get on with them. Welcome to look at other suggestions, budget of around
  17. Thanks, will take a look. Don't want to spend a huge amount either. I reckoned so - just change the receiver over, reconnect and away we go!
  18. Hi all Recently been enjoyed a bit of a rennaisanice period with my old Mardave V12: I'm looking at upgrading the RC kit from old Acoms 27Mhz to newer more reliable 2.4GHz - mainly because I dropped my old Acoms unit over the weekend and it's playing up. I was thinking something along the lines of this: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/etronix-pulse-f.h.s.s-ex3g-2.4ghz-steerwheel-/rc-car-products/38734 Would it simply be the case of replacing the current crystal receiver with the one included in the above kit? Plug and play so to speak? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
