  1. A year and a half since the last update and really, since I last tried running the car.

The soldering wasn't grey and a couple of joints worked loose and the chassis sat for ages. A few months ago I tried to rewire it with all black cable, just to tidy it up - but I'm crap at soldering!

A friend took it to work and sorted it all for me.

I should have it back one evening this week.

I moved to a new workshop last October and have just been crazy busy, but at the weekend I got the MS-01D out and had a friend over to slide the cars around.

Here's the layout we messed around on.

    It was so much fun!

I can't wait to have the FXX back and start working on RWD again.

  2. It's been a long time since I updated this!

Over a year since blast ran my RC cars. I've been watching loads of YouTube videos which inspired me to get back into it.

The FFXalways seemed to run a bit funny. It was very skitty. Turns out there was a broken front upper arm.

You could only tell with the car upside down, haha.

I managed to buy a while chassis pretty much in pieces and got the part I needed and loads of spares.

My photos aren't working at the moment but I'll update with pictures soon.

I have a quieter week at work so the office will be vacuumed and a track marked out :) hopefully my batteries are still good.

  3. I started on AWD with counter steer. It's a lot of fun, easier to pick up than RWD, but it lacks some realism.

Moved on to RWD and it's incredible - very hard to pick up but it's worth sticking it out.

The gyro helps to center the wheels, when the rear steps out it helps you to catch the balance point between a drift and a spin. It give you that split second to get the wheels on lock and hold your slide. It's not there to cheat and hold the drift like some people imagine, more an aid to get you there.

  4. For a brushless motor, a 10.5t or 13.5t are the most popular motors for drifting. Good torque and nice speed.

You can make the chassis RWD if you like. It's much harder to master but more rewarding when you do.

You'll need a lot of steering lock and a gyro will help a lot too.

I haven't had a chance to try it still dude.

I might be free on the 26th! I'll see if my batteries are still any good.

Do you know what floor surface it is? I'd be up for a muck about!

It's a painted resin. It wasn't great when I tried it last time.

I'll give it a try on the carpet upstairs when I get some free time :)

  7. A few people have got touring chassis to drift okay but the weight distribution and adjustment never seems to be as well suited as a dedicated drift chassis.

I've tried a couple of RWD D4s and they run really well with a bit of fettling. Millions of parts floating around for them in aluminum and carbon.

  8. If you want a kit to build, a decent budget chassis is the Sakura D4. AWD or RWD options available.

MST do their Pro chassis in kit for for the AWD Counter Steer chassis or plastic spec for the FFX which is rear wheel drive.

Their newer chassis come pre built as VIP spec. Worth the money but you don't get to build it up.

Yokomo make great chassis in kit form too.

All three of those brands have a ton of upgrades available :)

I'd say to just straight to RWD, most people are running it now and it's a lot more rewarding.

  9. I tried running my RWD chassis in my workshop.

Either I'm very out of practice, the car needs setting up for the surface, or the floor is just too inconsistent.

The office upstairs is nice, flat carpet tiles. I don't know if there's a tyre that'd work on those without getting mega hot?
