  1. For sale, my like new MST MS-01D. It's the S model with the front one way and a few other upgrades. It's on grey dot tyres and completely ready to run at most tracks, most notably Soul RC.

Before I get into the details, I've just moved up North a couple of hours away from Soul RC and just don't use this enough to warrant keeping such an expensive bit of kit - I really wish I could keep this! I ran it twice, both times at Soul RC so it's basically a brand new fresh build.

The spec list is pretty big, I wanted a competition level car straight away and this is much better than the MS-01D RTR you can buy from MST. I spent nearly

  2. Cheers for the words guys! Can't wait to get back down, will probably head over to soul again in a couple of weeks.

The GAs were ridiculously different, the car felt so planted at the rear and they weren't even set up properly even. It's tough getting the setup even all around without the turnbuckles. Was tempted to skint myself out for a couple of weeks just so I could get some on Saturday!

  3. Had loads of fun at Soul today :D

Really feel like I achieved a lot! Met Scratcher and Teshi both top blokes , met a bunch of regulars for the first time too all of which are extremely helpful! Within seconds of getting the shell off I had 3 people over throwing me advice on the alignment.

Once the rear camber was gone, front camber and caster was added it drove leaps and bounds better. No longer a twitchy mess of a car which can barely drive in a straight line. Next upgrade will be a pair of GA26 tyres for the rear, I ran on a spare pair of Scratchers all day and they are INCREDIBLE, if you run carpet you need to use these tyres, I can't believe how much better they were. When I've got the cash I'll be getting alloy shocks and a turnbuckle kit too, as setup was a real pain in the arse and took probably an hour longer due to having to pull the car apart every time one thing needed adjusting.

Got a good feel of the car too. I'm still sketchy as hell, struggle to do 2 or 3 laps without a spectacular spinout. I was pretty much riding the barriers most of the day. All part of the experience though. Can't wait to get up there again! Cheers lads!

  4. It's addictive up there isn't it! That's a shame about your battery though. I'll be going up next Saturday if you want some help setting the car up?

Sounds like a plan dude, I'll probably be there too. A few pointers will definitely come in handy as I have no idea where to start

  5. heh so you going tomorrow but not Saturday because you got something to do on Saturday? Confused! Real there is very little play on the motors so get everything to slot in. Reminds me I need to find my pinion also! Electrics go back in mine today. Hope my lipos are ok considering they been stored for about 6 months.

IF you are there tomorrow, i should be up in the afternoon.

Haha sorry lol posted that last night in relation to today :P Went up today and got a new pinion, silver dot tyres and grease as I'd used the wrong stuff. It was awesome! Couldn't program my ESC as I didn't have a PC at hand so had to take it easy as I didn't have lipo cut off set (why on earth is it not set as default?) but had a good 4 or 5 runs and really enjoyed it! All I need to do is program the ESC properly and do some alignment work. The car was a little too understeery which meant needing lots of throttle in the corners, resulting in shallow drifts and lots of spins. It's all a learning curve though!

I'll be going up again next Saturday :) One of my lipos was duff out the box and wouldn't balance properly (cheers for the help Mitto) so I'm getting onto Hobbyking about that now. I'm glad I've got two Lipos but to be honest it's overkill, I'm surprised at how long they last and how quickly they charge, even with just budget stuff!

  6. Bah, just had my HPI pinion arrive and the clearence between the pinion and spur is too far so they don't touch at all. Furiously searching the internet for tips on how to get them together!

Edit: Further investigation shows that even if I put the motor on a small plate to raise it up to the spur, the motor housing then SLIGHTLY touches the belt. Would rather not fart arse around with this and blow belts left and right on top of that. So my job just got a lot bigger! I need to get a new pinion at Soul tomorrow (I'm hitting up Soul tomorrow instead of Saturday, the missus dropped the bombshell we have something to go to Saturday :( ).

Everything is ready to go apart from this pinion. Gonna charge my lipos up tonight ready for the morning start. Once the pinion is in at the shop, I can set the electronics up and get them talking to each other and FINALLY drive the bloody thing. I'm crazy excited.

  7. Sorry dude, I just have a massive OCD over those wheels. Never really notice it once running on track.

Youve done a good job on keeping the chassis tidy. Some people heat shrink it all so its got a little more protection but see you have done it right the first time. Whats next on the list for it, just setting it up now? Its been a good few months since ive run mine so im not sure how everyone has been setting up oils and spring rates.

Yeah pretty much just setting it up! Should have the batteries Wednesday, I'll get everything programmed and ready to go and then see if one of the guys at Soul wants to help me do the alignment. All goes well I should be up there day and night this Saturday if it's open!

And there's no need for a sorry I'm glad it's been pointed out :P

Edit: just chucked my last order down. I've got an Etronix Deans lipo harness coming to replace the bullet one, was

  8. I think the only thing that I didnt like about the MS which you done a good job is if you cables were messy, you ran the risk of them being cut and exposed by the belt.

Also a tip with those wheels, on the hex they are marked L and R to let you know what side they go on since you have some on the wrong way. ;-)

Haha how did i not see that! I'll switch them over now. Feeling like a bit of a div! Cheers for the heads up before I really embarrassed myself lol.

And yeah that belt is in a really awkward position considering how skinny the chassis is. I'm used to running tamiya which have pretty wide chassis for all your goodies. Glad I've done a decent job. Cheers again

  9. Got it all together tonight as I've ordered the last few bits for it. All it needs on the chassis is a pinion gear which I'm trying to decide on. I've heard a 6-7 fdr ratio is good so I was going to go with a 20t one.

Considering I've done no soldering at all on it I think it's come out alright! I've cable tied the crap out of it to keep it neat which was the most important thing for me. The centre between the ESC and servo houses all excess wires cable tied up and tucked away, so I popped the RX upright on top of the servo. I think it looks pretty badass.

The shell fitment is a little bit shonky, partly because it's the first I've done in years and partly because it's a very cheap Matrixline shell. One side seems to sit lower than the other at the moment, and it's bias to the right by a few mm. I need to attack the holes with a dremel so that it sits properly I think, it looks awesome but it's also driving me mad :D

    So things to do!

    - Fit pinion

    - Correct battery harness (my lipos have bullet connectors :( )

    - Fit body details, mirrors, wipers

    - Get the batteries charged!

I'm going to set the car up at Soul RC I think. Before even powering it up here I want to get down there and do everything in the pits. I know support there from the team is great so I know if I run into any issues I'll be in good hands.

I'm also looking forward to setting up the alignment! I've straightened the rear toe up but I have no clue what the recommended setup is down there with their carpet. I can't wait to get cracking

  10. How did you find the cheeta ESC and Motor? Did you ever run them or with the mounting issues couldn't? I am kind of temped by one for the price as I have a very old AE belt TC chassis and am looking for a cheap combo to throw in. I have never had the SkyRC stuff.

Never even got it hooked up, the mounting issues were too crazy. I tried so hard to undo the welds that were on the battery so I could position it right but it was too much. If you need the connectors facing backwards I'd steer clear of it as they are solid!

I was impressed with it though. The quality felt good, really good, for

  11. Ill keep an eye out for that shell at Soul sometime :)

I've seen your photos around Teshi you take a hell of a picture!

Had some issues with my real car lately so I'm just waiting to build my funds up to get a couple of Lipos and a charger, then I'm sorted! ETA next Saturday at Soul until late I reckon, fingers crossed :D

  12. Its a really good motor and ESC. I have the Reventon S and the DOKYO drift spec V3 10.5 turn motor. Very smooth. All I would say is I wish I had gone for the standard 10.5 as the drift one has a modified fan on it and it makes 'drift sound effects'. It is just noisy as hell and makes a weird whine, I have one of the plastic fan rotors crack and break and damage a sensor (they did replace it for free though). Just really annoying that it will most likely happen again.

Cashew. If you are saving for an E10, it might be for saving the little bit extra and getting the sprint 2. It's a far better chassis over the E10.

Glad to see someone else has a good experience with those motors. Seems bang on for what I want! I went 13.5T because I think 10.5 might be a little too mental for me at the beginning, especially with 2S lipo on board. Even though I used to race touring cars it was years ago and none of us used lipo or motors over 15T stock spec. Gonna be a bloody animal this thing!

Definitely need some adjustable toe arms for the MST I think, I'm trying to get my head around setting up the alignment (any guides? the manual is useless) and with the stock fixed arms the lowest settings is about 4 degrees inwards!

  13. Ok thank you will have to get hold of them

You're pretty close to Soul RC aswell mate! I'm in MK but will be commuting from Sheffield uni in term time to visit the track, a good 2 hour drive :D

I know I'm updating like mad and haven't really got much going but still - I've just ordered the Speed Passion Reventon R ESC, and a Speed Passion Competition V3 motor. Both sensored, I think, not much info on this motor online but the few sources I've found said it's sensored. Fingers crossed but I hardly broke the bank on the two.

The motor connections are also directly on the back of this motor so I won't get into trouble with the front facing ones that were welded onto the SkyRC one!

  14. Finished prepping/drilling/painting the shell up today

Just needs bits like the wing mirrors and wipers adding on, trying to decide wether or not I like the spoiler enough to put it on aswell.

Really happy with how it turned out. Haven't done one of these in years and I was never one for constantly switching my shells out anyway. Painted up perfect in the end. Didn't have a reamer to hand so attacked it with a drill for body posts. The fronts were a total pain in the ass as the posts align absolutely perfectly with the big vent in the bonnet. So it's not neat but it's functional which is more important for me.

So yeah a bit rough around the edges but hopefully once I've done all the details tomorrow it'll be looking sweet.

I've had a delay now as I've had to send the motor and ESC back. The motor had the connectors around the wrong way (they needed to be backwards facing to fit into the motor housing) and were impossible to remove as they were tig welded it seems and I only have a soldering iron to hand, so the 'solder' wouldn't melt. Should have my cash tomorrow and I'll order a speed passion ESC and motor I think.

Servo and RX turned up today so once I've ordered a new motor it's only the batteries that need doing. Probably won't make it to the soul comp but if I've got a bit of spare petrol (absolutely skinting myself out on this! No regrets) I might go up anyway just to soak in the atmosphere and meet everyone.

  15. Wow, that was fast!

The shocks will probably have minimal oil in them, it's a good idea to just top them up any way. I've got got a couple of little bottles of 30w oil if you want one to get you going.

I was up at Soul last night, you need to get out on track dude :)

Might have to take you up on that :D

Just went and grabbed this. Once all the parts are here I'll assemble it all. :)

  16. Triple post :D #soznotsoz

The chassis arrived today. It was shipped monday from Thaiwan and arrived this morning. I'm absolutely amazed at that.

Chucked the wheels on for a few pics. My esc and motor are at my dad's (for some reason eBay selected my dad's address to send them too, weird). Servo and body are in the post, and I'll be ordering my rx/tx later this evening. If all goes to plan it'll be up and running late next week.

Quite happy with the rims they sent me! My body is going to be metallic green or metallic blue, haven't decided yet, so they will go nicely with the body.

I'm just crazy excited now. I've wanted to get into this since Soul opened last year!

I'll also order some grease later, just remembered that. I take it the shocks are oiled from factory aswell?
