  1. Thanks bud. Yea the shell i guess is for 200mm racing, is a shame they moulded basically a touring car wing into it. I presume hpi just copied the old tamiya shell and called it a day lol. I wouldn't mind if there were more on the market by other manufacturers like pandora but alas no.
  2. Yea i like the GTR's got a couple of pics that arent top down as such but can see the cage etc better before i put the padding on the lack of legs is a shame with these tamiya cockpits but then again they werent designed for a convertible ..i was going to print of a sticker saying "legs go here" but cant be bothered lol their isnt much detail on the inside, just the stickers etc the cockpit came with..i did have to make a custom firewall with styrene sheet as you can see in the pic below as the cockpit is too long for this car in terms of realism, if i would of left it, it wouldnt of looked right.
  3. Howdy gang, i dont post much any more but thought id share a couple of bits. been doing a MR2 roadster shell with tamiya cockpit and roll cage made from styrene rod..never doing that again what a pain it was. also amassing a bit of a wheel collection / addiction lol, my latest two are the Team surging 12 offset yayoi wheels and RC Art evolve GTR in i think 11 offset. either way with a 200mm shell thats a bit bulged out from the cockpit being fitted, they still all poke lol also going to try wrap up next X3 rwd tyres, usually use DS racing rwd's as i had great success with them, tried speedline and never again am i buying their stuff, a couple of their wheels feature in the pic but overall ..naff imo. will also do another MR2 shell at some point as this one was a proof of concept if you will.. Wheels are as follows Speedline LXZ In normal size and narrow pair for their narrow front tyres RC Art Evolve GTR overdose XD9's in white another set of XD9s in flat silver with painted white centre MST enkei RPF 1s MST something something lol Team surging yayoi in flat silver
  4. have to admit that auper D looks lovely. The suspension is a copy of what DS Racing call their Bagi system or something, tis clever stuff
  5. surprised you didnt purchase the oxygen kit for this since you like hopping it up.
  6. Setup with RWD is immensely important so yea station will be so useful. experiment with shock position, camber link position and length etc. i know the rule of thumb for some reason is front shocks straight up and then lay the rears down, i found it too fast when it came to transitions, a bit snappy. changing the shocks and camber links slowed it all down for me. ..but yea rwd is a tinkeres game so keep experimenting.
  7. Understeer particularly on entry can be sorted by dialing in more negative camber, i use around 8 degrees now and its much more reactive but its also personal preference. all the talk of RWD is crap, all the negativity comes from those who give up after 5 seconds and have no clue what they are talking about. I have had the FXX-D go silly quick, however this is with softs and the tyres literally melt, even my DS racing mediums are melting on the rear ive initiated drifts so quick on softs that ive over taken the 4wd boys ...fun but wont be using softs any time soon as it will ruin the carpet which is used for racing as well so that plus additive lol.
  8. looks nice, noticed the motor is toward rear in a typical mounting spot, what does it handle like as my FXX has the motor right at the front. im guessing you need to load the front end up with weight otherwise you have no front end control
  9. you wont find much difference in going from a sprint to a tamiya to be honest. They are not "drift" chassis so to speak.
  10. There we go, thought as much, so yea wack some batteries in, make your car look cool and off you go.
  11. A voice of experience in regards to 50/50 (4wd) CS (countersteer) and RWD pick one and stick with it, all the skills you learn with 50/50 and counter steer will not help you in any shape or form for RWD drifting, so if you wanted to do RWD start now not later. RWD in particular really is a different ball game that requires dedication, so many have had a go on my chassis and give up after 30 seconds. I went RWD because its more realistic in how to break loose, the dynamics of it all, very similar to what i was doing in my real car. RWD and CS are games for those who enjoy to tinker and forever tinker, RWD more so. But anyway this isnt really being helpful. in regards to your ESC etc if you have nimhs just use them, if you want to invest a little more then you can buy a Trackstar ESC and motor combo for around £40 from hobbyking, hard case 7.4v lipos are had cheap from em too. But for now, wack a battery in, put a shell on have some fun.
  12. Looks like an older hpi sprint will be fine for some fun drifting. unless you want to be going mad with setup and taking the whole thing mega then to be honest find some wheels that you like with tyres and make a shell that you like, i do the shell first then can work out what offset wheels will work best. N go have some fun!
  13. sensorless is horrible, only experience i have had of it is you have your finger of full throttle, car goes 50% speed..and then suddenly it picks up to 100% .. with drifting throttle control is so important
  14. this is what im using, still no issues to report, going strong and reliable http://hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/__65980__TrackStar_ROAR_approved_1_10th_Stock_Class_Brushless_ESC_and_Motor_Combo_13_5T_.html
  15. Theres a guy at the club who uses a silly low turn motor hes 90% crashing 10% drifting lol dont need mega power, lads are doing well on 17.5t motors as well
  16. Whilst on 4wd the camber isnt quite as drastic on the handling .. changing it to around 8 degrees now, the car handles rather differently, less understeer ..a lot snappier and reactive. Castor is 8 degrees too, dunno what 12 or 16 degrees will do, could experiment..or not bother because im pretty happy other wise haha . so yea the stance certainly changes the car ..in a big way
  17. Got my all white overdose d9rs today in 7 offset, so much more dish! love it, running 3mm spacers up front as well. can see the 5 offset versions in matte chrome with white centre (painted the white centre myself) next to the car as well also sprayed the shell in PS flat clear from tamiya, utterly brilliant, didnt react with anything, including the red paint which is acrylic from humbrol, printed paper, the stickers..nothing, and its spot on as well.. looks fantastic.
  18. i got a turnigy trackstart 13.5t and esc set for around £40 odd from hobbyking has done me well thus far (i use 13.5t because im rwd, get whatever turn motor you want)
  19. Ah Cool, nice to have a great circuit so local. They will be very accommodating so they will want you to race with them i am sure. Tyre wise that will be something they will know better, dont do touring car racing now however i have never needed to use lower number tyres, lowest ive used is 28's
  20. Seeing your location is west london id assume your local track is the outdoor west london circuit? Best thing to do is go on facebook chat with the lads there and see them as well see what you need. Youll end up running schumacher sorex tyres which are pre glued, set of 4 is around £20. lipos they will want you to use hard case lipos as well. As i say best thing is to see the guys youll be racing with.
  21. Incoming opinion. It looks like you lobbed the shell through halfords backwards There's no real scheme or reasoning to what you have done. Id remove the stickers, get the shell mounted low as you can and it would be a really nice clean rx8, but thats just me
  22. just been reading about plastic calipers rubbing my FXX D S calipers are absolutely fine and smooth no rubbing or catching but there we go.
  23. Evening all havnt been around much but what i have been up to. Purchased a pandora bn sports sileighty, the first shell i had didnt have the correct bonnet etc so restarted from scratch. Then painfully did the blood via paint and a screw driver, got the stickers done by rc graphix workx (jon) yokomo light buckets and wrap up next 3D Decals so they look really nice n real, and i also am now running overdose D9R's and DS Racing medium rwd tyre set and they are bloody brilliant, love em, also put lead tape on the front wheels of the d9r's to bring em up to the 40 grams which is the same as MST heavy wheel rings with tyres on. so will see how it performs. some pics of the car alongside ryans the car i replicated.
