  1. Hello all, I like obscure and different things so was wondering if anyone knows of less conventional electric rc layouts e.g. Front mounted motor with shaft drive to rear wheels only, rear mounted motor behind rear wheels driving only rear wheels etc. Basically chassis designs that more mimic real cars than having the weight distributed evenly. Pics, vids or names welcome whether off the internet or your own cars

This made me chuckle, so it costs a little bit more than
  3. Keep on going, its your own thing at the end of the day. I used to race nitro cars at a school club they were made out of tape and cable ties where something would break and it needed fixing straight away with whatever as we had no money to pay for parts, they even used eraser rubber for springs at one point as its all we had, looked like they would be useless but they worked and importantly i learnt a lot from it and kept me in the hobby so don't give up. When might you be getting a bodyshell on it?
  4. Most of the cars in here a clean... So here's mine after today's play in the park
  5. I like this chassis very much! However I found that it could do with maybe a bit more grip on the front so I'll start looking into that, mainly noticed that it was down to the diffs in the car letting one wheel spin freely so I'm going to look into solving that whether with a one way diff of making a limited slip diff although I do still need to add some foam to the tyres to stop them flexing as much. But I did also notice that the front lifts up and the back dives significantly even on light throttle so may be down to adjusting the springs and dampers etc, or trying to move the weight forward, I like the FF01 chassis too and was thinking it would be cool to have a front mounted motor instead of mid. Another thing was because it's been raised so high to clear the ground it rolls very easily, I measured the width to only be 180mm roughly so possibly may look into lengthening the suspension arms and making it wider along with slightly longer travel. But all in all I'm happy with it and have a nice casual project to improve to how I want it. Also I'm tempted by the Land Rover Evoque shells, fairly cheap to batter up and I'm a Landy man, plus I couldn't find a Bowler Nemesis shell just the Wildcat
  6. Got out in the park for about an hour this evening to see how it handles and performs etc and quite impressed but have few ideas in mind for improving the handling. This is one of my local parks. It has a basketball court and a fairly big open field that is regularly very quiet, just the grassed area is maybe a bit bumpy for it although it still goes well fully raised over the grass. Some of the tarmac in the court has collapsed so makes avoiding them rather fun otherwise they make it very easy to flip the car if not careful. Posing just before sunset after a good session in the park with no breakages too. Also my first ever time using an rc out of my own garden so very happy how it went. All muddy and dusty after the fun and filled with leaves. It was fairly clean before so my park is quite dusty at the moment but will clean the car when I get round to taking it apart and greasing it all.
  7. Im impressed how good it is design-wise with it being made of plastic, very simple too. There's a few washers missing here and there on the suspension so ill try to get some soon but its already on bearings so that's
  8. Mine how I got it today, Tamiya TA02
  9. Hello all, Today I recieved a Tamiya TA02 with a Mitsubishi Evo shell hich I intend to use as a basher on tarmac, grass and mud etc so treating it like a rally car. I'm not sure which route to go down whether to buy some more Evo shells whens the current one falls apart as there's currently a few cracks on it or whether to get something different like a Land Rover Evoque, Porsche 911, Lancia, Metro or some other alternative shell that is cheap to pick up as during my first use today it ended end in the grass bank in my garden a few times so I reckon a metal front bumper to follow the shape of the bodyshell could be on the to do list to help keep the shell from cracking above the wheels arches. I did however mount the body as high up as possible after the first time I drove it onto the grass it got stuck! Anyway I'll use this to keep updates about it's progress. Currently it's got a 12T Brushless in it on Vapextech 3700NiMH batteries, ball bearings, adjustable shocks, otherwise standard chassis so I may modify as and when I see a need for it such as suspension travel otherwise I'm hoping to just enjoy it how it is. First on the to do list is strip it down for a clean, grease everything and reassemble so that I know what it all looks like and to check the condition of all the parts then it's ready for playing! I was impressed with the run time on these batteries as well as the price and delivery speed at
  10. Liked! Just got myself a TA02 so Ican have a play on tarmac, grass and mud now
  11. I'm glad I finally found a thread on this, deffo following it! Are you having a motor drive each side or utilizing some clever gearing to give it a chance of going fast in a straight line like this? http://youtu.be/Fp1wbKW9C0Q
  12. Been doing a little bit of brainstorming so not much progress this week. Been trying to think of how to make the rear axle as I havent't found big enough bits of metal to make a full live axle casing from so going to use bits of 3mm plate and steel tube to make it in two halves, machining the bearing holes in the lather. I've decided to try to copy the Land Rover Defender suspension in a very vague way which uses two trailing arms with bushes in each end to give flex. Im using small squares of foam sat inside an 8mm hole then fitting another plate on the outside to hold the faom in, giving flex to the two trailing arms so that some body roll will be possible but hopefully enough to prevent the belt being twisted too much on the pulleys. The diff will fit inside the two main plates shown.
  13. I noticed you've got an rc spitfire too I like the car with Fusion 28 on the bonnet. I'm gonna start going to parks etc soon now I actually have a working car, most likely be in my own village or over Rugby way and possibly some of the local villages, just ideally need flat grass or tarmac
  14. Very good, keep going. What sort of constuction will the chassis be, materials ad size etc? How far away are you from starting to make the real thing?
  15. Now got myself a Tamiya TA02 so I may go check out Butlers Leap during Friday daytime if I have time and the car isn't broken
  16. Ill go check it out soon, I should be receiving a 1/10th rally car soon so i can have a drive around
  17. Any updates? I'm not sure if it's my computer or if some of the pictures don't work now
  18. Do you have a thread on the Bowler Wildcat? Edit: Found a video of it
  19. That's fair enough, hopefully someone that has the time to finish it might be able to. I had a look on your M03 Minis link and It's a good idea, they'll love racing them. Thank you, I'm slowly getting there but hopefully be running in the next few months then the fun of reducing the weight
  20. I don't want to give you anymore ideas to confuse you but... Citroen 2CV hot rod!
  21. Will be good to see this done and all your time put to good use, keep up the work
  22. I've never had a chance to use a nitro engine for long so I couldn't say what their lifespan is, obviously ones revved high for long amounts of time are likely to last longer than just casual use ones that don't see flat out for very long. Is the engine old or have you used it much? Fuel can go stale after a while and won't work as well. It may be worth finding out which part has worn if it's the case and you fancy being nosey inside the engine but there's better people than me to ask about nitro engines Thank you, I'm hoping to get it running in the next few months and upload some vids of it working. Niggly little problems like what you've got have made me go to the extreme of trying to build a car that won't break easily, lol
