Hi Noj,
Just so you are aware, probably just over a year ago we were asked to move on from Horsforth Park. I spoke to the Local Authorities Parks office department at the time. At that point he advised there was no specific by-laws, but there was a by-law requiring us to do whatever the park keepers asked - i.e. leave.
He was sympathetic to our needs, and after 20mins on the phone agreed the council should make some provision, however he felt the best way forward was to formalise our group and agree a location for use. This just does not work with the group becuase no one wants the hassle of formalising it and more importantly we liek to vary our bashes to keep it interesting and fun. I note that skaters, BMX, dog walkers and even picnic eaters are not required to become formal organisations to have their needs met - therefore why should people using RC in a sensible manner?
You could offer to meet them in the middle? i.e. draw up Leeds City Council guidelines for use of RC in public parks, simple things like:
Avoiding unsociable hours and key dates when we know event are on.
Ensuring ones vehicles are fit for use.
Cleaning up afterwards.
Avoiding flower beds or lawned areas, particularly when wet.
Avoiding conflict with other user groups.
Fail safe must be fitted.
All fuel to be kept in propoer containers and any spillage covered with saw dust.
Just a few ideas, but the point being they could come to a meet, look at some models, talk about the safety features and make some sensible decisions rather than just banning things they probablu know very little about.
Cheers
