  1. Never come across wheelspin before - thanks. Just searching through wheelspin site - they do a land rover 90 body for savage, would almost condider buying a savage now that it can be made to look a little decent,,,,,
  2. Just about finished running my hyper 7 black in - will post some pics whne I actually put the bodyshell on it. Anyone know of good source of clear bodyshells for the hyper 7 as my airbrush is in need of some exercise...
  3. Why do glow plugs fail? How do people have their brakes set up? Does anyone regularly clean their engine with White Spirit? OK, to expand...... I have just about run in my hyper 7, and now on 3rd Glow plug. The last one failed after the engine decided to rev itself really high and then stop (throttle was at idle and there was fuel in the tank) after replacing plug all worked fine with no adjustment to needles, The Glow plug was completly dead when I tested it, but appears fine when i look at it. I noticed that the brakes where set up to favour the rear wheels, with the front ones still turning until the buggy actually stopped. This is the reverse to the normal breaking in the 1:1 world. Is it just a case of my hyper not being set up correctly from the factory (bearing in mind I had to change the air gap before it would start as it was set at about 1/10mm) Overall the breaks are not very sharp, and I will be adjusting them before the next run, as I would rather have the wheels lock up when fully applied, I can feather the breaking if I only require a speed reduction after all. So how do others prefer to have the brakes set? Finally, The instructions that came with the engine say that the rear cover should be removed regularly and the engine cleaned with White Spirirt to remove any fuel residue, Must admit I am a bit twitchy aboout doing this as I know that I soon as I remove the pull start the spring will go and I will need to buy a new one (I know this should not happen - but if it can - it will happen to me!). Does anyone clean their engine this way and if so how often?
  4. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=15417 Part number is 21017. I can scan a parts list for you if you like.
  5. There are a few ways of doing it - When I first took the course for my amatuer radio license we where shown how to send a picture,, took about 6 minutes for a grainy black and white image, No one really bothers anymore since the rise of this internet thingy... Co-incidence is that I have recently recovered a number of items that I left in the loft of a house I moved out of 16 years ago, one of the items was my CB, I hooked it up to a 12v battery and the thing still works fine. Back then my "handle" was Barking Badger... now I wonder where I got my username from.....hmmmmm I saw a new cb setup today that said Channel 19 was an emegency channel! I remember 19 being the general "pick-up Channel"...
  6. Before doing anything else I connected a 7.2v battery and tested the motor. It is not really clear from this vid, but although it is seems the wheels are spinning quite fast, they are not - and any pressure on them stops them dead. This was the original reason I stopped using the grasshopper - the plastic bearingss in the front wheels wore away the axles, and the front wheels wobbled all over the place, seemed lie a big deal back then.... the broken Gearbox support and an indication of just how filthy the model was. Not much to a Grasshopper when it is all laid out, I am going to leave the gearbox intact as there is no play in the gears and no sign of wear - I do remember putting ball race bearings as an upgrade after I purchased it - and used vasaline as the grease as the original instructions advised (well they said Petroluem Jelly not the brand name) Still looks clean inside, I know this was not one of the fastest machines ever, but it more than did me. Wonder if I should start on the Clod Buster next... hmmm. Will keep updating as the parts arrive,,,,
  7. Hi All, I am in the Peterborough area, Thetford is good for me - anytime in Feb is good for me too, I have a Hyper 7 TQ Sport that is just about run in so will be up for a bash.#
  8. It is - So I bought it Thanks.
  9. I've just got back into RC cars, and decided to have a look at my original car, a tamiya Grasshopper that I built in the 80's, to see if I could get it working well enough for my young nephew to use when we are out playing with my new nitro.. Immediate replacements required where tyres, and the front axles. Easily done thanks to ebay. So tonight I started to strip the model down to remove all the crud that built up over the years - 20 year old grease and mud in every nook and cranny made me decide to copletly strip and re-build. When I removed the gearbox, I found that one of the rear uprights was cracked all the way through and this broke off completly when I tried to ease out one of the damper screws. So my question is - has anyone found a glue that will give a really strong join on the old plastic? or am I going to have to look at replacing the whole chasis, which togeher with a new engine are mounting up the costs, possibly making it uneconomic to carry on with the repairs. Or if someone has an old non-working grasshopper they may want to sell at a cheap price perhaps, just for the spares. Jim.
  10. On the advice I found on this forum, I have already replaced the steering servo, will wait and see what happens with the brake/throttle one, although I think next payday I may just purchase a second,
  11. UPDATE several more hours spent trying to start my hyper7 tq sport with no luck, adjusting everything, setting them back to factory settings and starting again... nothing, UNTIL I decided to check the air gap in the carb, it was set at about 0.1mm. Opened it up to 1mm - started the hairdrier,,,,, three sharp pulls and vrrrm - one workshop full of fumes,,,, 1st tank all went well - gentle throttle, not going over about 1/4 throttle. All good - quick responce - whoooopeeee. 2nd Tank - the poor batteries had had enough and died quickly - leaving the throttle open - hyper 7 shoots off - straight under my landy and off up the bank..... fortunatly a tree acted as a good brake and I managed to catch up with it 50 yards or so away, persistant little bugger was trying to climb te damn tree.... Whilst batteries are charging I have now iinstalled a rubber band failsafe! So - leasons learned so far :- 1: Do not trust factory settings. 2: Always make sure bateries are fully charged 3: FAILSAFE!
  12. I have literally just had a problem where I lost power to the car, and although I am runninng a 2,4 ghz system, the failsafe did NOT kick in as there was no power to the servos to return them, which left me with my first runaway (second tank of running in my first nitro car) While the batteries are charging I have just installed a rubber band failsafe - so IMHO the answer is a definate YES!
  13. Cheers m3lyc, Glad to know that I am not alone. Will check the gap and try adjusting the needles when my fingers have healed Jim
  14. It all started when the ex walked out, Now I can do what I wangt when I want, "Hmm" thinks I, "I have got a couple of old Tamiya electric rc cars in the garage, maybe I can get them going again," That done I realised that I wanted a bit of a change, I had always wanted to get in to Nitro, so decided I wold buy myself something for christmas... Much browsing on the internet, and reading comments on this forum - decided that a hyper 7 TQ sport would fit the budget and be a good start should I decide to start racing, or if not just a good car for taking with me when I indulge my other pleasure - off-road with My Land Rover. How hard can it be? I have re-built a 1:1 landy.......... Friday after christmas - nice big parcel delivered from Modelsport,,, with everything I need to get started. 1st thing - fit the rechargable batteries - (thanks for the help Jamo) - order replacement for steering servo. 1st Problem - the lead that can be run outside the reciever box for re-charging is less than 2" long, just long enough to get the plug to the bottom of the wiring channel - ok - I can replace this wire - 20 minutes later all done.... Charge battery and Glow starter. Out to the garage - all ready for the 1st start and then start the running in (OK it;s night time now, but I have good lights out the back) TWO DAYS LATER. Still no running engine..... Heated engine with Hairdryer. pull starter pull starter pull starter Flooded engine! remove glow plug - pull starter with plug out to remove excess fuel. repeat hmmm Checked Glowplug - yep glows almost white hot when touched on the ends of the starter,, repeat loosen glow plug 1/4 turn repeat repeat hmmm do the heatsinks have to be so sharp - no skin left on 1 st joint of index finger,,, Mop up blood and find a plaster.. repeat repeat Piston gets stuck at very top - reheat with hairdryer - gentle tug on cord and all back to normal again,,,, drain all fuel - repeat all of above today,, after replacing with new glowplug AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh. Instructions for engine say do not adjust until run in.. I have done everything I can think of and now am at a loss....
  15. Ok, taking your word for it I have ordered two for replacements. Hopefully as I need to run in the exisiting ones will last until next week! Thanks for the help. I am sure there will be more questions coming soon.
  16. Good idea, I will steal that idea! Have you changed the steering servo? I have read a lot about them and just wondered what you would recomend.
  17. OF Course! Thanks for that! I was just looking at the existing one and thinking that the lead was a bit short to feed out of the box for charging..... I have so much to learn! Now to work out the best way of keeping the battery pack in place,,, I see rubber bands/velcro in my near future...
  18. Hi All, I have just taken delivery of my first Nitro - Hyper 7 TD Sport Black,, I bought a bundle from MSUK, and got the hump battery pack - they have also sent a new on/off switch, this one has two power out plugs, the one fitted only has the one. Any ideas why? tried to call them but they are shut today. Cheers!
  19. Hi all, I am new to the forum, and have just purchased a Hyper 7 tq sport Black edition, and from past experiance with electric rc cars, some protection for the front T bar is going to be essential, are these available to buy? If not how do they attach to the chasis as I can knock something together, probably in aluminium... of course I could just wait for it to be delivered and answer this myself......
  20. Thanks for that - presumably the server motor should be strong enough to compensate for extra load.
  21. Hi All, I am completly new to Nitro, I have just ordered a Hyper 7 TQ Sport Black Edition and am intrigued by the elastic band failsafe - please expand.........
