Intro
A little while back (well over a year ago) I got myself a Tamtech Porsche 934 shell with the intention of fitting it to a 1/12th chassis. I hated the Tamiya chassis it was meant to sit on, and quite wanted 4wd, so first of all I tried an Xray T1m. Basics, the wheel base was too long and although I was happy to shorten it, the wheels wouldn't fit over the hubs.
So I sold that! Next attempt was with a Sportwerks Recoil. I could have made this work but I went off it , as I decided I wanted to use 1/10 electrics rather than 1/18th. This was a problem, as the shell is pretty small. So to get 1/10 electrics AND 4wd would be a bit of a challenge...
The Project:
The first thing I did was pick up a rear bulkhead/layshaft bit from a Xray T1. After a bit of thinking about how to get belt drive and fit a battery, I decided to get another rear bulkhead. The raised layshaft allows the belt to pass over the battery, thus sorting the issue of space.
Next I ordered the corners from the Tamtech GT01 from HK. All I've really changed on these so far is the front now have drive shafts going through them (the Tamtech's only RWD).
I'm now waiting on another order from HK for the pins that go through the wishbones. I need to mod the bulkheads so the battery will fit on the middle again. Next week I'll try and make a chassis out of MDF. Also on order are some shocks. Will look at inboard suspension. I also need to sort out belts. I'm fitting a standard rear belt to the rear bulkhead, and then I need to find a belt the right length (after tensioning with a pulley) so it will clear the battery. If anyone has a belt they think they can help me out with or know of a belt that will fit on the xray's pulley but is shorter than usual, it would be very much appreciated.
I plan to finish the bodyshell in gulf colours, though I might leave one half clear so you can see what I've built behind it. Thanks for reading, I'll keep this updated as I go along
