  1. Been fiddling with this off an on over the last few days. Finally managed to get it idling consistently yesterday, I've got as OS carb fitted so getting some base settings was a case of trial and error, and I don't think the cold weather has helped. Even got it moving under it's own power for a little yesterday, but finding it cuts out with only a little throttle, so I'm thinking I'm still running a bit rich.
  2. Might be worth using a hand reamer rather than a drill, would be more precise.
  3. Hi Guys, Finally got out to the workshop over the weekend, got the new piston and sleeve installed and the engine back together. I got it fired up for a few seconds, unfortunately my 20 year old NIMH stick batts won't hold a charge, I get one good crank out of the EZ start before having to charge again for 20 minutes. Couldn't be bothered with that so will leave it there until the weekend and order a new batt in the meantime.
  4. It is the same stock as on the Accuracy International full rifle (it's their chassis system for various actions). I agree, would love a full AI rifle but too expensive for the amount of use I would give it. The Remmy 700 is accurate enough for me & a fraction of the price. And to be fair, if you were buying an AI you should really be putting something like a Scmidt & Bender PM2 on it, that's at least another £2.5k. 🙂
  5. Thanks Ziggy, In terms of ampage, when you say bigger, what sort of scale are we talking. What is considered "big"? The ESC's I'm browsing tend to be either 60 or 120.
  6. The stock is yes, it's an AI AICS AT. The action is a Remington 700 that's had a bit of fettling, it's sub MOA (unlike the shooter 🙂). And yes, .308, thou I tend to shoot 7.62mm milsurp. The stock transformed the rifle, the orignal was a carbon fibre/kevlar composite, but too light for the round imo. The heavier stock soaks up the recoil and makes it a pleasure to shoot.
  7. Afternoon all. Just after a bit of general advice. I have an old 1/10 nitro buggy (HoBao Pirate 10) that I'm vaguely thinking about converting to brushless. This is just for a bit of fun and to learn something about electric RC. I don't want to spend loads so I'm looking at budget motors and ESC's on Amazon. What I really need to know is what sort of motor and ESC to get. Amazon has some cheap DollaTek combos, 3300kv motor and 60amp ESC, for 2s batts. Would this work or should I be looking at higher or lower kv motors, and hsoudl I be looking for motors that will handle 3 or 4s? Also, would I be better of looking at Bangood or AliExpres for this stuff? As you can probably tell I'm a complete newbie to electric, so any advice gratefully received.
  8. You may need to clean out the fuel tank, fuel lines and engine from any fuel residue before you try to start it. The oil in the fuel left over from the last run can leave a bit of a sticky mess. I'm doing exactly the same thing at the moment with my T-Maxx which has been in the loft for almost 20 years. I used IPA to do clean, and replaced the lines to be on the safe side. Also check the air filter, if it's the foam type it may have perished.
  9. Not yet, new parts should be arriving from Wheelspin today, so will try and get them fitted over the weekend if I have time. I'm shooting all day Sunday so will have to be tomorrow.
  10. Believe it or not, that was the cheapest, some were going for £70+. To be fair, the skirt of the piston also had some damage, may have done that when I took it out. 😞
  11. Hi all. Just found this thread so thought I would post a pic of some of my firearms.
  12. Hi all. I am in the process of trying to resurrect my old T-Maxx 2.5 that has been languishing in my loft since 2006. Started the tear down this weekend and immediately realised the piston and sleeve no longer had compression (possibly why it went in the loft almost 20 years ago). Managed to get a new piston and sleeve ordered, but almost 50 quid?? Managed to get some charge into the old battery packs, the receiver turned on but no movement from the servos yet, so that next to be investigated. I'm going to fully charge teh batts first on the off chance there wasn't enough juice. Also need to get some new filter foam, the original had tuned into a gooey mess.
  13. Hi all, I'm Bob. I used to be quite into the RC hobby, but in 2006 when my 2nd kid was born I had to put it on hold, mainly due to money. I sold off most of my kit, but kept one truck (T-Maxx) and ancillary crap, which went into the loft. As the years went by I slowly forgot all about the truck in the loft, and thanks to an increase in available funds got into new hobbies (target shooting, model engineering). Before Christmas I was up in the loft and found my old T-Maxx and have decided to see if I can get it going again. I still have a gallon of Nitro fuel from 2006 that was never opened so will be interesting to see if that works, but in the meantime will need to strip the old girl and make sure everything still turns and moves as it should. I'm expecting the engine and carb to be fairly gummed up so will probably tear them down and rebuild them. I also found a brand new unpainted body (Dodge Charger) so looking forward to painting that. I'm also looking forward to seeing if I can upgrade some parts. Back in the day I had fitted a lot of purchased hop-up parts, but as I now have a lathe and milling machine I think I can probably make a lot of parts myself. We will see. I'm sure things have changed a lot in the almost 20 years I've been away, so got a lot to catch up on. 🙂 Cheers, B
