Quick update, all up and running on 3S, definitely feels fast enough 🙂

Got my Hyper 8 converted to brushless now, are there any recommendations for cheapish led lights purely for good visibility at distance? Too hard to see which direction it’s pointing when it gets to end of road. I’ve seen cheap ones on eBay and Amazon but don’t know if they would help?

Will do Locky. Ty. The Surpass motor and ESC arrived today, it has twin connectors. Can I just use one connector and leave the other as is or will it need something doing to it? Bypassing somehow? Also going back to the diffs, do the internal gears need grease on them? I have normal LM grease, white lithium grease and a”food grade” silicone grease intended for homebrew O-ring beer connections. which if any would be best?

The centre diff isn’t a spider diff after all but the f+r are. Awaiting diff fluid to refill centre one but haven’t taken the f+r apart yet. When I took the rear diff out of the box there was a lot of metal swarf around and the bevel pinion had been scraping the spider casing. The bearing with the red arrow in my pic was missing! Why would that be?

Thanks Locky, done that and got the diff out but looks like the ends need to be removed before the bearings come off. Does that sound right? If so do I have to completely strip the diff?

One of my bearings is shot and I need to replace it. Got a new one but how do I remove and replace it? Do I remove the 4 hex bolts that hold the large gear in place? I think it might be the spider diff as it’s the pro model.

If I’m using the 150A esc with motor combo as above with a 3S lipo, can I use any “C” rating lipo or are there rules that say I should use say “30C” or “60C” etc?

Just checked, my lawn is 30ft*20ft so sounds like 3S is the way forward. At least for my first lipo.

How do I check temp of motor? Do I need one of them IR pointy gun things?

Think I might get the 3S lipo to start with. Cheaper too, I don’t want to spend too much then regret it. Thanks locky I’ll get some diff fluids and change them.

I assume a 4S lipo would put more strain on the esc than a 3S? Assuming running at similar speeds?

Hi all. I’m going to attempt to convert my old Hyper 8, from AliExpress I’ve ordered a cheap motor bracket and a SURPASS HOBBY KK Waterproof Combo 4076 2000KV Brushless Motor w/ 150A Brushless ESC for 1/8 RC. Couple of questions- Will my old spektrum DX3e radio work ok with this? I won’t be wanting to break any speed records, it’ll be just for mucking about in back garden so should I buy 3S or 4S lipo? Pinion size? I’ve ordered 11,13 and 16 to test out. What’s the recommendation for this considering it’s only a 2000kV motor? TIA
