  1. Managed to make my cheapo shocks work to an acceptable degree. I had to deliberately make them sloppy with loads of plays around the shaft. They'll do until I get something better and they don't perform any better or worse than the standard items. I've heard good things about the Carisma shocks so will probably end up ordering more stuff. Again. Then I'll need shock oil. I know nothing about shock oil. Down another rabbit hole i go...
  2. Thanks! its an ongoing process , you know the type. Buy some bits , see more bits , buy more bits , repeat until skint
  3. Finally got round to fitting the new Injora high clearance links and steel driveshafts to my scx24. I also fitted some cheap but nice looking shocks but as they are almost completely ineffective, they're back off again. I have a new motor and anodised mounting plate and gearbox cover ready to fit, but as these are so annoyingly fiddly to work on I end up doing one thing and calling it a day. Also have some brass steering knuckles ready to go on but I need to find some extended stub shafts before they're gonna work with my wheel weights. Then i'll have to do the rears at the same time or its gonna look funny, the list is ever growing...
  4. In the last few days I have received 2 x injora motors, 1 x scx alloy g/box plate and cover, brass steering knuckles and today my new shocks arrived too. Still waiting for the aluminium chassis links turning up then I'll get on all of it at once. Had a go with the brass knuckles but if I'm going to use them I'll need some +4/5mm stub axles to keep using the wheel weights. Then figure out what I need to do to the rear to keep even track width front and rear. It's a learning curve 🤷‍♂️
  5. Just fitted some wheel weights to the standard plastic beadlocks on my sons FTX mini paso. Made them at work last night and they turned out heavier than the brass ones you can buy, 21g compared to 14g each. Was that keen to get them fitted i forgot to take any pictures but i'll be making more in the near future
  6. Took my SCX24 , my daughters Outback 2 mini paso and my sons Ravine down to the rocky part of the beach for a play in the sunshine with the kids. Had to try mine out with the new beadlocks and tires , the grip is now unreal. I also never ever want to see another set of pressed steel beadlocks in my life and i now realise why they were so cheap 🤬
  7. I 2nd a Mauler, i got one a couple of months ago and its been great. Like others say they do need some mods but i think the biggest is to replace the ESC with something that doesn't slam the brakes on as soon as you lift off putting a lot of stress on the plastic diff gears. The FTX rx unit that lets you keep the same controller is also starting to come back in stock in places. All parts are cheap too
  8. I was going to ask if it was FTX when i spotted the red diff cover too, reckon its going to the top of my list now
  9. That looks awesome! There is nothing i don't like about the look of that, what make is it? Currently looking at various small scale crawlers and would prefer something land rover derived, thats really appealed to me that one 😍
  10. Gave everything a good clean, charged all batteries. Nothing special , just getting ready for some outdoor fun at weekend. I did order some 1.0 beadlock wheels and a new set of tires plus some new shocks for my SCX24
  11. I picked up a prescision tool kit on Amazon for £15, so far its repaired toys , guitars and now RC cars. Not heavy duty but decent enough
  12. Fixed a screw hole on the bottom of my micro truck chassis as is wasn't countersunk enough for the screw to be flush when tight. Also removed the lights from my scx24 as one stopped working, fault traced to dodgy led. Removed both as I have no spares at home or work (typing this at work) and a replacement is 11 quid and comes with a whole front bumper. Oh, moved that in a bit too as I noticed other holes on the mounting posts. Got paid for all of it too.
  13. Today saw the arrival of an emax servo and injora steering linkages. Will be fitted over the weekend to my scx24
  14. You can get replacement axle housings pretty cheap from modelsport. Won't be any stronger but you'll at least get back out for not much outlay https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/ftx-mauler-4x4-rock-crawler-rtr-yellow-420978/spares-1682
  15. Mine arrived through the door yesterday, first big crawler for me. Was planning on modifying it but will most likely just run it as is maybe some new tires/wheels. I've noticed a lack of modifications available for it though, does anyone have a link or two they can share? I'm slightly paranoid about plastic gears and will replace these and the servo at the first opportunity.
  16. Thanks for the welcome all, but my "experience" is limited compared to most on here. I'm here to learn what I can from those who know, Google often helps as well though
  17. Hello all and merry Christmas! Just signed up and thought I'd drop the obligatory post for newbies. Been I to rc since I was about 10 or so (now 42) and had a couple over the years Tamiya Mighty bull, Avante, nothing special just what I liked the look of at the time. Recently picked up an Axial scx24 Deadbolt and I'm having an absolute blast with it. Some upgrades already fitted like brass wheel weights /diff covers and new tires. Next up is a new servo. Apologies in advance for any stupid questions. Time for some more xmas chocolates and a fresh beer, see you out there
