  1. Ok, so I fit the after market aluminium 24 tooth spline and the servo boots it all the time, as in, the servo arm dis-connects immediately, so no steering. The servo horn is tight and doesn't give up, but the ball joint disconnects constantly. At least the car run for a good hour before the last spline disconnected. Should I just buy an Associated plastic servo arm? Argh, I really should have not starting messing with this car when I bought it. ..it was running sweet! Cheers
  2. Alex, thanks. I'll check that out. I did take the car out for another run and yep, the steering went. Now bought a 24t spline, althogh not fitted yet, so hopefully that will sort it out. Randomly though the car lost reception over 100 metres, so I'm probably going to have to upgrade the Transmitter now....gah. Cheers
  3. Thanks, both. I've not bought anything more for the car yet, as not had a chance to run again. I did tighten it all up though, so, i'll see how it goes on the next run (when I get a chance!). I will definitely check the teeth again on the spline, before I take her out. In general, where's the best place to buy spares for Associated, in the UK? Cheers
  4. Hi folks, Wondering if anyone on here runs one of these? I've just bought a second-hand model and I love it. Very responsive, durable and fun. I've ony had a slight issue with the Servo horn detaching so far (the seller didn't include the 8mm ball stud, so I made do with a 6mm one). As I have a plastic servo horn, I'm unsure if that is the issue, or I have to buy an 8mm ball stud instead). Anyway, love the car and would like to know what others are running? Cheers
  5. An update from me. I ran the car for the first time a day ago. Ran very smoothly for a long time on tarmac with the 4500 battery. Totally stable. Not a crazy amount of traction on dustier sections (with good tyres). Towards the end of the run the steering went a bit, so I figured the shut-off on the LIPO kicked in. However, the servo horn had started detaching from the servo spline. The 'horn' I got with the car is plastic. Tightened it all up. Was going to go for a Reedy servo (expensive), or Savox (which draws alot of Amps), but starting to think an aluminium, or titanium 'horn' instead would actually be better and cheaper as my Hitec servo is already superfast. Anyone have any ideas, what would be best? Cheers
  6. Hi all, I just bought a second hand Associated B6d, which is in perfect nick (rolling chassis only). I do plan on taking it offroad, but nothing bonkers. I simultaneously bought electronics from it from a different seller. Not sure if they were for this car as that wasn't specified in the ad, but I figured the set-up was probably taken out of one. I got a Hobbywing 120ESC, Speed Passion 10.5T and a HiTec 5925MG Servo along with three 2S LIPO batteries (3500-3800). 110C, 100C and a 25C (i'm guessing the throw-in battery). I never had shorty batteries, so this is a decent start. I also bought a Goldbat 4500 50c battery (before I saw the other listing, so may sell that one on, depending...as it is actually new and I've no idea how many times the used ones have been charged/disc-charged, but they were in storage mode when I first charged them, so reckon the bloke looked after them). One thing I was told was that it's essential to buy a servo that can pull 7kgs plus. As I discovered, you will maybe need an additional 8mm long ball stud to fit the servo arm to the car, as the one I bought was removed (prob with the original servo). If you've bought a new car then no issues. I shoved in an old Tamiya ballstud and the size of the fitment seems good (although not long enough), so I am expecting to have to change this not long after I get the car running. Just want to see if it works first. I'm also just about on the baseline of what a servo should pull for this car. Think mine is 7.5kgs. I also got a Hobbywing Prog Card with the electronics buy and the Speed Passion motor is sensored. I didn't bother with 'sensored' in the past and when a total noob, but I found my other car was lagging before it kicked in (bit like a turbo on a real car!). A sensor wire sorted that out for me. Could have been my novice set-up, don't quote me, but it made the car wayyy more responsive (that car was a Tamiya though). Wanted to stick with a 24 tooth pinion, but one is on order. I have a 21 Tooth lying around, so going to shove that on and see what happens, with 78, or 81 stock (I'm guessing Spur gear...as I didn't build it!). Disclaimer; i've not run this car yet as just received everything today, so prob best to go with the experts on here! All the same; it looks impressive! Cheers
  7. Hi Stimpy, Like your username! They are cool; Monster Beetles. Had the Beetle out the other day and well; lost two suspension springs (found them again after searching for ages!) and noticed the chassis tower was cracked when I got back home. This would explain the shocks popping off everytime i've had the Beetle out recently. I think my nephew slamming the buggy into a wall repeatedly probably resulted in this! Haha. Anyhoo, I've decided to sell the Beetle as is (will glue chassis tower first and declare it in my ad), but didn't want to drop another x amount on a parts tree for one part! Plus, only getting about 15mins run-time out of the buggy before i'm switching batteries again. It's running NIMH and I don't want to upgrade to LIPO as it's just not built for it, so will incur alot more repairs, which I'm not up for. Been a blast though, but it will join my Tamiya Midnight Pumkin that I'm currently selling, along with spare parts; motors, shells and ESCs. It's been a labour of love and great fun, but it's someone else's turn now. So, keeping my speed run TT01 and just bought a 2nd hand Team Associated B6D buggy (for offroad...maybe onroad), which arrived today. So, down to only these two cars soon. What you running? Cheers
  8. Not had anything out this week as no time, but might try for it tomorrow. Considering getting a Tamiya TT02 buggy style to add to my collection. I'll probably keep the Mutant Monster Beetle, as my 4 year old nephew has got into it now! I'm going to sell my other Tamiya TT01E, in parts, but full kit (not my speed run car) and my Midnight Pumpkin Chrome (original), while it's still not too beat up! Ridiculously clean for an ancient car. Anyone got any recommendations? I'd prefer something Tamiya TT02B based as I bought parts in my novice state that I can't make fit the TT01 (TT02 alu drive shaft) and latterly the TT02 High Speed Gear Set (which I bought on mis-placed reviews and will be too much hassle to fit to the TT01 speed runner). However, I'm still open to a Tamiya TT02 street car, but don't want to drop £100 on it, which seems to be the go during 'lockdown' and the lack of cheaper euro cars on Ebay due to the Brexit postage costs!! Cheers.
  9. Just watched the vids, cheers. Good fun. You need an 'ol monster truck for those gravel peaks. I feel better that I broke less than you guys ;-). Very hard to get decent run ups though.
  10. True, true. I really appreciate you giving me the word on it. It was alot of fun today, bashing around. That makes sense, I saw marking on the access road today for concrete. Just concerned about the 'grooming' they've done on what was the flat surface further up, where my vid was posted. It was almost perfectly flat. No idea what they're going to do, but it's a large space, so developers.... It struck me that there don't seem to be any rc car off road circuits in Scotland, pretty much. There appeared to be one up Aberdeen way and Dumfries, but apart from that....nilch. That sounds weird, as much of the country is wild, but it's hard finding spots! I'll check out your run (if I can find it here, as not used to navigating the site!). Lol. Aw ra best (and fingers crossed for tomorrow)!
  11. Weird they're doing it for safety, when 'No-one is supposed to be there'. I did notice today that they seem to be prepping to lay more concrete, also they've done away with some of the concrete features. It looked alot like they were re-instating the access road...and I'm wondering what for? Most of gorge floor was also flattened and it seemed old industrial copper wiring was being ripped out too (under the top soil). I wonder if it might end up an industrial estate.
  12. Haha, I suspected that they might be. Thnaks for the steer, before. The ground is actually better for running now. Do you know what they're building there? Please, god, not more student flats!! Lol. Yeah, was a little bit paranoid that I might be caught. There are usually dog walkers etc., but place was empty...apart from deer!
  13. Hi all, Just thought i'd post some vids for fun. One of my cars' (this one, obviously) is a frankenstein Mk1 Tamiya Beetle/Mud Blaster. It's got pretty much all original parts on the chassis apart from the necessary tie wrap around the back chassis as I got fed-up losing the dog bones!! It also has metal bearings. It's running a 14 x 2 Mega Motor Dirt Oval brushed motor, a ModelSports Sniper ESC, standard Acoms servo and receiver and a 3500MaH NIMH battery and the all important MIP super ball differential! Just a fun basher with a hard shell (don't know what it is but it IS bulletproof. Also have the proper Monster Beetle shell, but don't run it with that as it likes to spend alot of time on its back! Only get about 15 mins run-time on the NIMH flat out (which is how I always drive), but with multiple batteries (some inherited) it's ok. Dibs to Stormbringer, who may well recognise the location (... it's changed alot in the past months!). Saw RC tyre marks when I got there, so obviously someone else had been before me! Johnny 5, as I call this car, did pretty well with the heap of gravel, which was fairly soft, so his tyres dug in. Damages; only had the suspsension pop out and a tie rod to re-screw after bashing like a hoon. Not bad for an ancient car. Toying with the idea of Lipo etc, but think it would just be too much power. Any pics/vids of yours? Cheers...and enjoy the fitba! 20210613_151902_Trim.mp4 20210613_152113_Trim.mp4
  14. GM...thanks for posting those up. Let's see if any come out of this year's event at some point. A few Wing Commander's on there. Did some not need parachutes to slow down!!
  15. It would be great to see the videos of the meet. Sounds like a good time!
