Thats awesome AJ and one of the best times of Rally past Group B. I have green eyes of envy!

That wasn't Group B FYI, ...Group B was banned/stopped in the late 1980's after some horrendous crashes and the deaths of drivers/co-drivers AFAIK.

Great pictures @.AJ. . Wish I could have witnessed both those drivers in real life.
Spent many an hour watching rallying throughout my childhood as I loved motorsports and those two were some greats to watch. McRae in particular was the reason as soon as I could I bought a 1996 classic shape WRX Impreza as it was a dream to own that car (turned into a nightmare in the end but that's another story  ).

The Losi products are certainly appealing and there are plenty of upgrade options available.  Maybe I am too fussy but it is the smallest details that put me off some models.  On these it is the fact that the front and rear light clusters are just stickers.  On something that costs 500 GBP that is disappointing.  I know these cars are all about the performance and driving but it wouldn't take much to have a simple lens moulding.

No offence but I think that is a little too fussy.  😉

Seriously though if that's what you want then maybe you are better off looking at crawler kits as they do seem to value details like that more than trucks that are meant more to be driven harder/faster to be enjoyed.
If Arrma, Losi, Traxxas etc etc did add more realistic parts like light lenses then they'd probably get broken within the first few minutes of use.

If you did go for a crawler type kit you could always modify it to be more of a basher truck I guess, ...you know different gears, motor etc.

  4. @ChewieMcBacca welcome aboard.
As for places to run car park's are good providing you have space to run without risk of hitting parked cars or curbs but can get boring. You could bring cones to lay out a little course and if you want to try some jumps you can buy plastic ramps.

Large open parks and fields are also good as well as woodland walks etc. Have a look if any mountain bike runs are local to you as often they can be good for RC. :good:

  5. I'd definitely recommend a 1/10th scale Losi Baja Rey for your needs. I had the larger 1/6th version but generally they're very similar.

Great fun trucks and with the solid rear axle I believe it gives better realism than a lot of the SCT with their independent suspension set ups. You can also add a lot of scale parts yourself for added realism although the trucks do come with some added already like fire extinguishers etc.

  6. @Kajusbagdonas GRP tyres are your best bet and usually cost around £17-£18 a pair.  Available in various compounds, I'd try S3 for starters and go from there.

Another option is foam tyres, specifically "Contact GT8" foam tyres which are available in 4 shore hardness's.

Would these cars be competitive now or compatible with the latest batteries and motors? Or is there any demand if I was to sell them?

There is always a demand for the vintage Tamiya's and other makes too.

My thought with using older RC's to race with or even just use in general is how available are spare parts.
At a local club I once raced at they had a vintage Tamiya class which I guess would level the playing field rather than having the vintage cars against more modern variants. Maybe that's an option for you if you did want  to race them.

    Welcome aboard. :good:

im glad i have a petrol car which is bad enough to fill up but diesel is over 20p a litre more expensive :insane:

Petrol/fuel is always a hard pill to swallow I find as the cost in the UK just seems so OTT compared to other countries especially as we are fairly self sufficient with making our own petrol.
I believe most Diesel is imported so that could be part of why that's so much more expensive?.
Obviously crude oil being more expensive is part of it plus the war in Ukraine causing higher prices but I just feel we are over taxed in this country.
