  1. Well, a couple of months ago I took the gamble and brought the long awaited HPI crawler. This was mainly try and keep up with my mates (ADH66) Scx10ii kit. Firstly, I think the HPI looks great so I was excited during the unboxing to see that the model was put together pretty well. The most impressive being the dual spring shocks and the general damping quality and feel. I have made a few mods these being stickers, spot lights and white bead locks with mudslingers on them. Ok ok let's get to the nitty gritty of how it runs. The majority of run time has been along side an scx10ii. I had a feeling the hpi would get munched and let's start with the bad things first. Ground clearance, I have found it to be the biggest hurdle with this truck. So much as I think my outback was almost the same if not a bit better. The scx absolutely trounces it in this respect. The sterring servo isn't great. It often tends to freeze right in the middle of a tricky section when your stationary. This will be upgraded. The good bits. It's a good weight 2.4kg and feels sturdy. It climbs real well and monsters up slopes with ease. It tends to deal with sideways slopes really well and really has to be pushed before it rolls. I have really gone to town putting this thing through it's paces. Big inclines, rocks, sand, clay, mud, very deep puddles. I have actually been very surprised at how good it is for a ready run and it most cases I cannot fault it. Vs the sxc10ii I would say most of the time the scx is a slightly more capable sturdy rig but not by much. There have been instances where the very heavily modified and heavy scx10ii 3.1kg at last weigh in hasn't been able to match the hpi and in general they both have different strengths and weaknesses. This makes for a great crawling companion because most of the time you have to use completely different skills to get both trucks over the same terrain. My other gripe is that there appears to me no upgrades for the hpi yet but here's hopping. Would I recommend this model. Definitely. It is seriously capable and a very good ready to run. 2. That looks brilliant. Where is the trailer from?
  3. @Wabom1981 cheers for the reply. I haven't done the shock mod but I have added wheel weights. I would be so interested to see how yours stacks up against the scx10. I also want a better crawler but sadly funds are not available at the mo.
  4. Is anyone else experiencing an issue with the outback tipping over all the time? Mine has got a spare wheel on the bonnet and a metal roof rack. I know this is the issue. The body is cracked too so I have ordered a green one as a spare. I do recall it tipping over a lot as standard anyway. Does anyone know if the Scx10's and trx4s do this too? Its getting to the point where I am trying to climb really technical stuff and it keeps just going over and getting frustrating. Wasn't sure whether investment in a better heavier crawler would help.
  5. Been quiet for a while as just moved house. Anyway, today was my first go at Rc fun in ages. Just a quick run in the garage. Was fun. I am in the process of trying to build a course.
  6. @t2boats thanks for the info. I will remove the bonnet weights. I have got weights in the wheels. I will try adding weights to the front axel. See how that works.
  7. @mamodman you could be right. I added lots of weight to the underside of the bonnet and now the tyre on the bonnet. I hadn't thought about weight to the axels. That's why I love rock crawlers. These little mods all make a difference. Plus the mods are pretty much endless. Thanks for the idea. I will try this.
  8. @mamodman yes the driver keeps hitting things ? I have tried adding weight to the rear and it seems to just stop the front wheels digging in on a climb. I may have added too much weight to the front and now it's too unstable and still won't reach the very top of the steepest climb. I think i may have just found its limits climbing wise anyway. However, it will get up some real steel slopes get near the top and then the front unloads and it's game over. If you just rest your finger very gently on the bonnet it digs in and finishes the climb.
  9. Latest mod. She slways has rolled over lots but even more now with the roof rack lol. Running 40 weight oil in the shocks which is still a bit hard. On real big steep climbs it's still losing traction on the front. Despite about 200 grams of weight stuck under the bonnet and weights in the wheels. Mind you I have started trying to get it to climb some serious hills. Does anyone know whether the scx10 topples over as frequently?
  10. Tonight's work. My £8 metal roof rack and lights arrived from china in double quick time. So shocked at how fast it came. Fitted and tested. Very happy with the outcome. https://www.flickr.com/photos/158396815@N04/shares/xx30cb
  11. @Wabom1981 I will definitely let you know. Hoping it will make a difference. Good thing is that I have two sets of wheels for different purposes.
  12. Great video. New tyres fitted standard but with weights in them and holes sealed to make them waterproof. Mmmmm they don't grip at all on climbs on loose stuff. Drilled holes it tyres to unseal them as they were not compacting to give grip. I have also cut every other tread too see if that helps on loose stuff. See link. It will be interesting to see how it works.
  13. @Wabom1981 great video. Like the home made course. I must build something like that.
  14. Thanks. I am tempted to order the green shell to keep for best. Plus I love the colour.
