  1. I'm sure it will be much more capable than the OG Hornet, but then, to me at least, it's no longer a Hornet. I think I'll just keep hold of my childhood memories of my '84 Hornet bouncing down the road (quite slowly)... In my 11 yr old eyes it was a rocket ship, the pinnacle of RC tech..., well compared to my dad's Cheetah it was 😊
  2. Too many to list really, mostly centred around my total lack of ability to recognise the value of staying in the game for the long haul... Let's see, how about deciding to buy a restored 1972 911 2.4S for £8500 (in circa 1997) and then bowing out at the last minute because I felt 'uneasy' about blowing an inheritance and my life savings on a little German sports car. What were those worth just 10 years later...???!!! Selling my E46 M3 CSL in 2009 for a grand more than I paid for it (in the trade) just 18 mths earlier. Value now...??? Feeling even more chuffed with myself (again in 2009 ish - a bad year for me...) after selling a large number of Taylor Wimpey shares for 5.5p - a circa 25% profit, having bought them just a few months earlier... what were they worth just 5-6 years later... Countering all these appalling decisions was finding & marrying Mrs Bertberr, so every cloud has a silver lining. Just don't bother asking me for any investment advice... Oh, and wolfie, to make you feel a little better about your regret, pick up a copy of 'A walk in the woods' by Bill Bryson, next best thing to actually doing the walk, and a lot less hazardous and considerably more amusing....
  3. Looks like a WL Toys A979. I'd be more concerned about supply of breakable parts, well those parts you're more likely to break, ie arms, knuckles, hubs, bumpers, body mounts etc. Ebay, BG used to have loads of parts for these little 1/18 wltoys cars, less so now, though you can still find parts on AE. Personally, as others have said above, I don't reckon its worth spending any money on it, so many other better/stronger little bashers out there now - HBX 16889, MJX 16208, SCY 16101 for not a lot of money. I'd perhaps source a cheap little 2S lipo and just enjoy it for what it is in more confined spaces, and continue your RC journey with a decent 1/10 basher.
  4. Yeah looks nice, but not sure how much this 2.0 actually differs to the previous versions of this truck? Seem to recall it's been around under a few different names in the past? Would be interested in a ARTR or better still an 80% kit, or even better again, a full kit... live in hope and all that...🤔
  5. Why is it people on FB think they can buy an RC, use/abuse it, then sell it for more than a new one... 🤔

They add up the cost of rc and all the upgrades and somehow think it's worth what they spent.

I was going to say it's because they are idiots.

Then I reconsidered...because if it's stupid to SELL your beaten up truck for more than a new one, what does that make a person who BUYS said truck?

But in all probability, they don't sell. These guys used to fill E-Bay up, but fees mean they go sell on FB instead. I avoid Facebook period. Not just marketplace.

Ebay just now - pair of used 2.8 Trenchers, worn but still very useable - £40 inc P&P...

New (Jadlam) with the latest Raid wheels, one pair - £35.95 inc. P&P...  Hmmm which to go for?

  6. ... apart from the plastic divider/bulkhead at the front of the battery compartment... broke during an albeit pretty hard jumping session on a rather compacted back lawn. Still, when I think what I've put this through, I really can't complain, proper tough this little thing.
  7. I like the look of this too. Might be something to finally replace my aging Amewi SCT (Maverick Ion SC clone).
  8. Confused quite possibly but not retarded...
  9. Newer / later versions of DX6i were both DSM2 & DSMX, but I'd understand if that's getting a little geriatric for you...
  10. Only thing I've ever broken is the wing (on the truggy), everything else is bullet proof.
  11. That front skid plate always makes me chuckle... 🤪, sure they could have managed to get another one or two wood screws in there.
  12. Yeah it only seems like yesterday that you could still get the first ReRe... Be interesting to see what the UK price is, I know they couldn't give them away at the end of the last run last year, think they were available from circa 300 quid IIRC. Just think the Javelin format works better with a different colour cage. RIT dye here we come...
  13. Forgot how much can be saved on Tamiya when buying from Tamico...  After all taxes/delivery, can save 80 quid on a BBX.

That's interesting to know. Can I ask how much tax/shipping was ?

Shipping on lighter kits like Tamiyas is usually around 17-20 GBP, taxes would just be approx +20% of invoice total (inc. shipping).

  14. Might want to check your battery is pushed all the way in too, and yes, set up as an aircraft, no need for heli features unless you're particularly keen on having throttle hold activated, not an issue with a co-ax or FP but if you intend on going CP eventually, then getting used to hitting throttle hold is good practice.
  15. Like the body and like the chassis... just not sure I like them together...
  16. I'll echo others sentiments, don't sell, or at least if you do sell some, think long and hard about which ones you really wouldn't miss...that much... You'll feel the love again one day, that's for sure. I've been into and out of this hobby for almost 40 years, sometimes the out's can be measured in years. But...I always come back, and if I'd sold everything each time I lost interest, I'd have wasted thousands over the years 'restocking'. My father is 80 next year and still into his RC, like me he has down time, but always comes back. You have many decades ahead of you to come back too, so try not to make any rash / emotional decisions.
  17. Is that just a SWB Hoss? Or even just a Hoss with a better name? 🤔
  18. Many peeps still running these little 1/16 trucks, or is it all MJX these days? Dusted mine off yesterday, couple of things to sort, then I'll start using it again outside the house. Really are tough old trucks these.
  19. Dropped Mrs Bertberr off in Exeter first thing then drove up the road to a lovely billiard smooth car park on an industrial estate, completely empty, and enjoyed half an hour with the drifter followed by 10 mins or so with the XK K110. Very windy, almost lost the little bird (the heli not Mrs Bertberr, I collected her later), but really enjoyed it, then back home to chores and DIY... 😒
  20. My heli journey is similar to much of the above, though influenced significantly by what I was lucky enough to be gifted by a generous and enthusiastic parent. I've only ever bought three heli's myself, an E119 FP and two XK 110 CP's. Started with the MCX co-ax, the yellow Mk1 version, remember those? Then MSR & 120 SR (never keen on the jerky flight characteristics of the little flybar equipped blades), then an MSRX - a very squirrely / tricky little bird, then my first XK 110, prob a bit much for my small indoor flying space at that stage in my heli learning curve. Then an E119, which whilst having a really rubbish transmitter, was a very stable and easy to fly little micro FP heli, great for practicing all the orientations. Then a 120S & 200 SRX joined the fleet, again gifted to me, and then more latterly, another XK K110, but the S version this time. In between these have come various quads including a La Trax Alias, a Blade 200 QX and a XK X251. What would I do differently if starting out again? Well, assuming I wasn't gifted anything this time, I'd scrub round all the FP stuff, and go straight for a little micro CP bird like the XK K110 or a Blade Nano. Both have full 6G stability modes and can also be dumbed down considerably when used with a decent computerised radio (DR, expo, Throttle Curve etc), making fairly early 3G / agility flying a realistic target. They can be flown, or at least hovered in most peoples front rooms, and can even be flown outside when there's little breeze. My job means I spend a fair amount of time in front of a screen, so I specifically didn't go down the SIM route, hence the little K110's, live SIM as I call it. Numerous lawn / carpet darts and almost no damage to speak of, well nothing expensive anyway. I try to practice most lunch times in our training room, and now no longer fly in 6G mode at all, and can fly the little K110 around my lounge without stability mode, doing basic circuits and figure 8's. I can't over emphasise the value of a small bendy 1S CP trainer if you intend to go all the way and just fly CP unaided or even progress on to mild 3D. My next chapter will probably involve selling some of the FP birds and either getting myself a 120-150 size CP like an OMP M1, Goosky S1 or Blade 150S, or just go for it and get a 380 size bird like a 450X, Align 470 or maybe even an OMP M4 kit. Who knows, but what I can say is the heli side of the hobby really is addictive, and a hell of a challenge for those of you like me that have left starting this journey rather late... Happy flying whatever you choose to do. My next
  21. That hit every branch on the way down...
  22. Nice! What do you think of the BBX?
  23. Blimey, it is quiet on here these days... Few years ago if something like this was announced we'd be on page 5 by now... I rather like it btw, and if I hadn't moved over almost exclusively to helis these days, I'd be tempted to give it a go. Always loved a nice SCT.
  24. My word... Gizmo & Elsa have got big very quickly! They look gorgeous. I must post some pics of our new rescue cats, sure Frank (avatar) won't mind...!!!
  25. Particularly interesting for me right now as I'm considering a 150S right now as my next bird. Like that it falls in between , size wise, of the M1 & M2, and that I guess I'd be fine using my old DX6i with it (without the telemetry). Keeps the costs down. Have also been thinking about the 230S or maybe a Goosky S2. Have really got back into the helis recently, in fact I haven't used any of the cars for some months now.
