  1. Holly rc`s, Tomley is building the Cross XX10 T-rex 10 wheel beast, that is something awesome

      Does look impressive.

REminds me of my plans to build an 8 wheel FG based truck with 2 26cc motors, 4WD 4WS, I had enough parts to make it, but when I laid it out...I knew I had no way to transport it to anywhere I could run it. So it never got built.
Whilst I love a statement RC, it's no fun if you can;t take it out for a run!

Meh...what this needs is a pair of nitro motors under the hood, so you get smoke out the pipe.

Hmm....now. That gives me an idea

  4. @Nitroholic hows the new graphics card then bud?

    1. Nitroholic

      Nitroholic

nope. New PSU made zero difference.

I kind of new it wouldn't, but I had to try. It's a better PSU anyway. Just means I upgraded sooner. The old one was bought when a previous unit blew. It was cheap and available quick. This is a much better unit.

  5. @Nitroholic hows the new graphics card then bud?

    1. Nitroholic

      Nitroholic

Yeah....slight issue there. My PSU has only 1 power lead with a split pair of 8pin connectors.

I have a replacement unit on roder from Amazon due tomorrow. Didn;t want to buy a new PSU...but...this is a possible fix, and a better quality PSU was probably on the cards anyway to avoid issues under load. If I ever actually get that far!

Will see how that turns out

  6. @Nitroholic hows the new graphics card then bud?

    1. Nitroholic

      Nitroholic

      well...so far STILL no joy.

Updated BIOS, tried a few BIOS settings, did a CMOS reset. Still nothing.

Tried monitors with display port cable and HDMI for good measure.

Screens stay black, and my Mobo 'EZ Diag' shows a VGA light, telling me either the GPU is not detected or failed. Yes. Thank you EZ Diag, but I think the totally blank screen had given me a clue.

  7. @Nitroholic hows the new graphics card then bud?

    1. Nitroholic

      Nitroholic

Yeah, going to do that anyway. According to the MSI website, there are several more recent BIOS updates, and the newest one was back in the summer. So I am going to snag that and see.

Probably a good thing to do anyway, as I haven;t updated it for several years

  8. @Nitroholic hows the new graphics card then bud?

    1. Nitroholic

      Nitroholic

      so far. .... trouble!

Plugged it in, and the Mobo won;t detect it.

Need to try a few tweaks now. Haven;t updated BIOS for a bit, and I have googled a few issues where the bios being set for PCIe Gen4 caused an issue, and reset to Gen3 sorted that. So have to try that.

My Mobo has 'EZ Diag' and the LED for VGA lights with the new GPU in, telling me the card is either not detected or in a 'fail' state. Card seems to have power as it has a few on board LEDs that light, and hte fans run. All the time...

but no output. Will see how I get on with tweaking over the weekend.

I have also been running my GPU on a riser cable, so I guess I should also try plugging it in direct to see if that makes a difference.

I officially don't 'have it' until Christmas day.

So I got to wait a few days. I bought a better monitor to go 1440 and higher refresh, but I need a GPU that can make use of it properly

It's basically a flat board, on stand offs. This leaves space behind to run wires. The GPU is on a riser cable for looks. I 3d printed covers to neaten the holes and to mount the HDDs.

The CPU fan points up .. which prevents dust buildup. Cooling is great, and I get to enjoy that RGB goodness.

LAN parties require a lot of building work and a replaster.

Just about to upgrade my old 1080 for a shiny new 7800XT.

I solved case issues, cooling issues, and space issues by getting rid of a case altogether.

  17. What do I do ? Sold all my rc stuff to a guy on Facebook he gave me a deposit and said he was going to collect it once it was packed up so I packed it all up and thought that was that but the guy has never shown up and no longer answers any pm’s.  Can’t return the deposit as it was cash and other than the guys Facebook account I have no other details.

    1. Nitroholic

      Nitroholic

Put the cash in an envelope, stick it to one side, then re-advertise the stuff for sale.

That will either flush him out of the woodwork, or, allow you to sell your gear. If he makes contact, you can refund his deposit. As long as you don;t bank the cash or spend it, you are acting in good faith. The guy hasn't paid for the stuff, and hasn't responded. Leave messages on FB and wait a week and you are good to go really.

It's also the cost, pure and simple.

Back in the day, I could get a decent vehicle together for £2-300 and if you bought decently on the used market, you could be out there having fun for £100. Wages haven;t risen hugely, but the cost of the hobby sure has.

Now you are looking at more like £400 to get a decent 1/10 scale truck or 1/8 scale buggy. You can go brushed, go 2WD , cut various corners...but it's still too much for a lot of folks.

Want a Traxxas Slash VXL? Well...they are old models. Should be cheap right? Used to come with everything you needed to run it. Not now. Buy a new one, and the 'bundle' prices on MS are hitting £500. That kind of issue then bleeds into the used market, and the hobby is in trouble.

Add to that restricted places to run, and more and more green spaces being restricted

Somewhere like Tamiya Club would persist because thats a very different market. A place where folk don't want to even BUILD the kits let alone use them.

As is the case with a lot of Traxas products .... aside from a few issues... they are decent platforms, and with the right addons can be made very good indeed. The issue I have always had with this particular brand is their continued massive over-pricing of their old models, their predatory practices as a company, and the fact that they fail to address so many issues on their trucks which it falls to the aftermarket to rectify while they just carry on selling the same old junk at ever increasing prices.  £329 for a VXL 2WD Stampede anyone ..... nope. Thought not. Well the RRP is actualy £409!

And that, ladies and gentleman of the jury, is my case against Traxxas.

  20. hey guys been thinking about getting an rc but as usual i am very undecided. if anyone could recommend one.

this is what i want with it:

    less than 50 pound

    never breaks

    latest cars

loads of spares (at least 2 boxes)

5 controllers in case the other 4 breaks

    😄 😄 😄

      £50 ??

I am sure you can get all you need for £25 if you shop around ....

  21. I've never been a fan of RC motorcycles but if this thing works as well as it does in the promo video I know what I might be getting. It also looks like Pro Line are doing supermoto tyres for it as well.

      £719!

AMain have them at $549. At current exchange rates, thats £432. Add 20% for VAT, ( another £86) and that makes £518.

Now, unless shipping from the US is £200, I think we are being ripped off. Importing one with the tax paid is clearly a better bet than paying what the UK importers

      seem to be expecting.

I've tried the RC bikes thing before, and whilst I can appreciate the potential....I haven;t found anything WITH the potential yet.
Or at least, nothing that wasn;t either fundamentally lacking or from a tiny minority maker that would vanish after you spent £500.

Now...at least with Losi branding on it...that covers one issue. Be interested to see how they are workign the gyro, and how it's going to deal with somnething other than a carefully scripted and controilled mini motocross track.

But it has got my attention
