    Tempted.... but the word Losi worries me... Although if its based on a dbxl parts should be ok?

    The DBXL is metric. The 8ight, Ten/SCTE and the LST I think which are still imperial. It's all standard sizes you can buy off ebay though. It's just annoying having two boxes for your fixings.

    Isn't the DBXL (gas version) pretty flawed compared to say the 5ive?? doesnt seem to be held in the same regard.

    However, the main positive of this is (true) large scale Brushless is coming. Hopefully a decently priced 5ive-E or MTXL-E is in the future.

     

    Is it a rebranded Max 6 or Max 5 in DBXL-e?

    5ive and MTXL aren't a simple conversion so I'd not be expecting BL versions from Losi. Ever.

     

    Max5 rebranded ESC, so built in caps and anti spark.

     

    Dbxl isn't a bad rig at all, this looks well specced out of the box. I'm having one, regardless of price. Or indeed space to keep it since the Tiger landed....:lol:

     

    Smaller scale kit is in the pipeline for selling, go big or go home....;)

    So a Max 6 is £130, a 800kv Leopard motor is what £150. Call it £300.

     

    Forgive my ignorance on a Gas Model, Im treating it as a nitro here but

    Im guessing a Gas engine is £200 ish? Id imagine a brushless motor mount/lipo trays/ESC mount would be cheaper than a gas engine mount, throttle linkage, brake system,extra servo and a fuel tank no? So isn't this expensive? Shouldn't it be around the same price as a gas DBXL? You're getting alot less in theory.

    Looks like a 5, wouldn't personally run a big ass 800kv can via 160a ESC.....

     

    Bl conversion parts are more involved than fitting a two stroke, add in the cost of quality electrics and the price makes sense to me....

     

    Plus, this looks MUCH better than the dbxl, lower profile cage and included wing, better tyres (hopefully)....

    As I say forgive my ignorance I thought they were literally ripping out the gas innards and replacing it with fairly a cheap ESC/Motor Combo. I personally cant imagine a CNC Motor, a Plastic Lipo Tray and an ESC mount would cost anywhere near the same as a Gas engine Mount/Pipe/Brake Set up/Throttle Linkage/Big servo/fuel tank etc. Unless there are differential and drivetrain upgrades. If anything (to me) electric conversion looks a lot less involved. The ESC takes care of most of it? The only reason I can see a huge price increase is if a Gas Engine/Pipe is worth considerably less than I think.

     

    Im interested. We will see :) X Maxx V2 and a DBXL E wouldnt be a bad garage, and I've been selling alot recently so Id be no worse off. If I sold my Slash and some smaller lipo's Id have the cash to buy this, provided it wasn't £1k+

    $110 for the conversion. £130 for the ESC (as it certainly looks like a my Max 6 and the stats suggest its a 160a) and then £150 (thats been generous) for the motor.

    SURELY thats got to be cheaper than all the Gas Gubbins.

     

    Stock Dynamite 23cc engine with spark plug  and Pipe etc is about £200rrp ? sound about right? Cant seem to find a definitive answer.

    Horizon would (possibly) argue that they have spent R and D time developing their own conversion kit etc..... I'll be honest, never been a fan of the Kershaw kit per se, however, they filled a gap in the market, same as Castle/RC Monster for the Baja.

     

    When I built our badgers, the castle conversion kit was around 65 quid. They discontinued it in 2014 after release of the Baja flux, as HPI dropped their own conversion kit in. Check the prices for the different hpi components, one side costs more than the entire castle kit!

     

    Buyers probably won't consider if the price hike over the gasser is fair or realistic: a 1/5th BL, artr rig will sell.....In spades I reckon, kudos Horizon for finally dipping a toe into this side of the hobby. 

     

    Could you buy a dbxl and convert for less than the cost of this? Yes, you probably could, but it won't be the same, IMHO and will come with the issues of a converted gasser, mainly the awful access for packs....especially when hands are sizeable a as mine are....

     

    The one major issue newbies will find is the charging set up required.....Cue plenty of posts asking 'why is my battery taking so long to charge on a 50w charger?' lol

     

    I had considered the v2 X, not a definite buy, have been following the owner's thread, seemed a better buy than the V1. This, imho, will tick all the boxes perfectly.

     

    Perhaps ought to finish the 'rail first though....:lol:

    The Kershaw DBXL kit is rubbish. Poor design, cheap materials, low tolerances. I used mine just a few times before I noticed the flex in the motor mount was damaging the pinion.  I did like the way the ESC mounts though and kept that part. I used the MGM mount for the motor, however this Losi conversion is much neater overall with the sliding mounting plate, dog bone drive line, motor on the outside of the centre diff allowing for better battery mounting. It even has redesigned diff housings and cases. 

     

    The only downsides I can see in this truck is the shocks are still not great so DDM spring all around and thicker oil needed to stop it bottoming out on jumps which then causes a nose down. The motor plate itself raises some questions about what will fit on it. The Horizon branded Fuze/Dynamite electrics have never been that great either.

    Mine only cost around £1000 because I got a complete DBXL for 350 quid. To buy a new car and convert with the MGM mount, new tyres and fixing a few issues isn't going to leave much change from about £1300. And yeah, 12 body pins to change the packs over.

    I'd say the DBXL wheel base is about 4-5 inches longer if not more. The front of the cage on the DBXL doesn't even reach the front shocks. It hooks into some body posts that extend back from the towers above the steering rack. You can see that the front body post hole on the side sits just behind the front arms on the xmaxx. The distance between the front arm and that hole on the DBXL is perhaps 5 inches. The width is also a bit off as well. Looks a bit comically large on the xmaxx.
