  1. Finished it, or more specifically, finished wiring up the lights. Its an Orlandoo Hunter 1/32 Defender kit. Spamming the forum now as I’ve already posted this link in my build thread of the same name, so this is just attention seeking, but I’m quite pleased with how it’s turned out. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ca0R0T5MUzK/?utm_medium=copy_link

  7. Just a few more wee updates on the build. My Bowhouse parts arrived along with an Artful Dodger skid plate. As mentioned, the Bowhouse kit was to improve the bump steer and comes with a pair of the bump stops to prevent over extension of the steering. The skid plate was because the truck runs a lot faster than probably intended and bottoms out on larger bumps. The stock skid was already looking pretty scarred after just a couple of test runs. I considered trying to make these parts up myself from aluminium (as I did with the trailing arm mounts) but, ultimately, I decided to consider my own 'hourly rate' when figuring out whether self fabricating was going to be worthwhile. With cheap shipping from Amain, the Bowhouse kit was a definite no brainer and the Artful Dodger skid is stainless steel which I think will work much better than the aluminium sheet I have to hand. So, here are a few pics of the finished chassis. I cut out a piece of scale checker plate to make an insert for the front bumper. It hides the mess I made when drilling holes to mount the front spots. It's funny the stuff you get most satisfaction from 🙂 Bowhouse kit installed: I added a brass tube with threaded rod to better brace the shock mounts. It's really stiffened up the chassis too: I also used some short pieces of brass tube to extend the Vanquish bumper mounts. The tube I bought had an ID of 7.5mm and the bumper mounts fitted really nicely with just friction fit. Viewed with the shell on, you can see the bumper now sits really neatly inside the shell: Shot showing the installed skid and a clearer angle on the checker plate: And, lastly a totally unnecessary shot of the rear diff cover after I painted it silver. Like I say, it's daft the stuff you take most satisfaction from but this looks awesome with the shell on. No pics but I also shimmed the front and rear axles to reduce the usual Enduro axle slop and rebuilt the shocks(!?). Which leads me to that last wee update. All four shocks leaked right out of the box. I was surprised as my other RTR Enduro never did this. Seems that some do and some don't. Either way, I filed a ticket with Element RC support on a Sunday night and had a full shock rebuild kit on Tuesday! You can't really fault the service. Interesting feature of the rebuild kit is that it includes additional washers that are not included in the Trailrunner, Trailwalker or Sendero but which are included in the Gatekeeper. They fit after the two shock shaft silicon O-rings and add a bit more compression and support to the o-rings. Looks like they have been added to help prevent leaks: So, only outstanding tasks are to shim the rear diff itself (to help with the higher power) and then add a few more decals. Spring seems to be coming so I should be right on time.

  15. Depends on what set-up you prefer. I am much better with stick transmitters and I really like the T2HR; it's comfortable and has the features I want (albeit, not many of them). However, I know people who MUCH prefer steering wheel transmitters and can't drive sticks! All depends on which feels better. If you are looking for a stick setup and you don't need a lot of features, the T2HR is great.

  16. Thanks! I've really enjoyed this build. Not rushing it at all and figuring out which parts to buy/fab. I'm really busy this week but am hoping to give it a proper run at the weekend. The short tests around the garden both with and without the shell have been really promising.

  30. Some Louise X Pioneer wheels for the X-Maxx: Some dirt cheap (£11 for 5 from Amazon Prime) 35mm fans to replace the rubbish that came in the Max6: The fans came with the wrong plug on the end so ordered some Futaba J plugs and a ratchet tool at the same time: Finally some grease for my bearings:

  32. Starting to come together now 👍🏻 The electrics are in and working great , I did have a problem with the dig gearbox and couldn’t get it to engage. After a bit of swearing and calling it a few names 😁 I took it out and stripped it down to realise I’d made an error and forgot to fit a clip to the shifting fork. All sorted now and shifting super smooth, Its set up on a 3 way switch with 1st gear in the middle position, flick to the left for second and all the way right for dig. Now it’s coming together this is looking like it’s going to be a pretty big rig.

  33. Hi all, this has been a useful thread that I have been reading through. I have a vantage brushless that I am running on 3s and am very happy bashing about with it, have been having problems with the rear shock mount as it is a bit bendy and started to resemble a banana. So I then made the mistake of getting very lovely shiny carbon fibre front and rear shock mounts, they both lasted all of 2 runs!! Have now ordered aluminium ones, am a bit worried that I may end up snapping the diff housings but am hopeful they will hold up. Has anyone else fitted these and how did they get on? i also went to my local stainless steel fixing shop and got all the screws in the car for £13! I am very happy not to have those rusty screws any more. I have fitted the sway bars recently aswell has made a big difference to the Handling at high speed would definitely recommend fitting them! party on!

  35. Took the trail van out for its first run today. Was good fun and enjoyed by me, the lad (6) and the little lass (nearly two and a half, she had a bit of help with the steering). It is quite top heavy with the big metal roof rack and van shell so was’nt too surprising to find it will happily traction roll when moving at speed. The first casualty of the trip was one of the wing mirrors that snapped off, during a roll, about 20 seconds after handing the controller to the six year old. Will have to find a more forgiving way to attach them for future trips.

  39. New to the forums, so, hi y'all from Las Vegas. I've had my Xmaxx for a few months now. Started off replacing some of the obvious bits, RPM rear carriers, CEN hinge pins, Max6, Traxxas metal gear servo, all SS bearings, some duratrax tires after one of the stockers exploded. But then after a fairly intense desert outing, my stock motor seized from a blown out motor bearing. Instead of wasting my time with warranty nonsense, I decided to swap in a CC 1717 1260KV. That lasted one bash session and the tekno pinion i was using disintegrated and jammed, effectively seizing the motor and destroyed it. Was running 20T tekno hardened steel pinion and 50T GDS spur gear and they did me well with the stock motor. I've since moved on to a Max5 with HW 1100KV with some WFO d-bore mod 1.5 gears. Currently running 33/20, while I wait for 35/25 to show up. Because of the heat out here in the desert, I'm finding cooling to me somewhat problematic, so I'm testing dual blower fans on the motor, and I'm waiting for dual blowers for the esc. Both dual fan setups will be running of separate 3S Lipo packs. The weight of this beast is really getting up there at 30lbs which has me a little concerned, but whatever, yolo. I'm starting to move more in the direction of on road speed runs instead of bashing anyways. So far i havent done any serious testing until I get my dual blowers on the Max5. Apologies for the dirty Xmaxx in the pic, but out here in the desert, it's simply unavoidable. The two 3S packs will be attached above the battery trays with the straps. I've tried to maintain balance with the current placement. The power out of this motor is pretty ridiculous. In fact the whole project is ridiculous, but whatever.

  40. Yeah, I get where you're coming from, although I don't think I'll find it boring brushed. I find my Lunch Box to be great fun and that's only running a 27t brushed motor. Brushed setup fitted. Hobbywing 1060 and a Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 27t 540. Hopefully, this will bring more enjoyment, as I really didn't like the whole "having to be super gentle and wary with inputs, as if walking on eggshells" thing. My Lunch Box is a hoot, can be fully ragged and I can see this being very similar. Less is more, in this case.

  41. TADAAAAAAAA!!! I'm not a painter, so found hand-painting the exhausts and grill quite tricky. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with the result. I just cannot wait to try it out! Thanks for the comments, guys. I appreciate it.

  42. So, the Tamiya Mini CVA set arrived in the post this morning! AND the stock arrived in Tay Models, so I drove through and picked-up the correct radio gear! The build continues! CVA shocks assembled and fitted. No friction shocks on this Tamiya! They are plastic and basic, but they are lovely and smooth. Finally got the chance to to hook-up the electrics and centre the servo. I told you the chassis was tiny! That's just a 540 size can!! No wonder there's a wheelie bar! Even for a Tamiya, this chassis has a weird steering set-up. It operates beautifully smoothly, though. Helped, in no small part, by the fitment of bearings, rather than the included bushings. Battery tray fitted. The electrics are mounted on-top of this, which was supposed to be done at this stage in the build. However, I decided not to, as I needed to test-fit the body shell and tipper bed, to find out how much space I had available. The SMD ESC I'm using is a LOT bigger, than the included Tamiya ESC. I wasn't sure where/if it would fit. Bought an F-Parts tree, in black, at the same time I ordered the kit. I felt that the bright yellow wheelie bar, sticking out the back, detracted from the Dump-Truck-aesthetic. I thought a more subtle, black wheelie bar would be somewhat "masked", leaving the instantly-recognisable Dump Truck shape to be unaffected. If that makes sense? The bumper is just silliness. It's great! Opted for a set of Schumacher foams, to help support the tyres and prevent them folding, under load. They fit perfectly and make a huge difference. Just look at that dinky wheelbase! The front bumper/mount & wheelie bar literally make up more than 1/3 of the overall length! This thing may even out-wheelie a Lunch Box! Test fitting the body, to ascertain ESC clearance. Looking at it, I'm so happy with my decision to buy the black wheelie bar parts. Right, so the ESC just fits! But only when mounted RIGHT at the back! Bearing in-mind, that part of the truck slopes upward, so the further forward you mount it, the less room there is. Yup, the far-side of that ESC is missing the tipper bed, by about a millimetre! Electrics fitted and wired. With that, the truck is mechanically complete! Tomorrow, I have to sticker her up, and paint the front grill & exhausts. Then, she'll be ready for her first run! What a difference a day makes.

  43. Fixed the front ride height, it was bugging me now it just sits right and looks right, in fact i think it looks awesome, totally loved doing the build, just know i will love trail running it. To say i am pleased with how it turned out is very much an understatement. This truck wont be driven hard, seen video`s of people smashing them around skateparks or BMX tracks then getting al sad because the diff has popped or bits broken of, think one guy snapped the chassis doing huge jumps! It a 30+ year old design and needs to be treated to some respect, but steady trail runs will be where its at. Thanks to all that commented on this build thread, your input has been really appreciated 😎

  47. Thanks Gaz. It certainly has. As usually happens with my builds, I get carried away and forget to take pictures of the progress. I did take few, but have missed some bits out, so my description will have to do. I didn't like that the back of the fuel can was open, so started filling it in. I used some scraps of a cut up Willy body so that it would bond nicely to the can. I forgot to take a pic of it finished but it's turned out great. There will be a pic of it later on once the paint has dried. Next I made a start on the figures. Jump now to the figures having been assembled. I also decided to add little (or large) 'detail' to make my wife's figure look more, well, womanly... I also wanted the drivers (me) head to turn with the wheels. I found an old micro servo and hot glued it in the back of the figure. And here's where I'm up to as of today. Body is painted and mostly assembled. I've just got the rear panel to bolt on once the fuel can is ready, and some final detailing to do on the body.

  48. So...since it came out..i know i had to have one. Got one from Germany cheap enough...as a 8s?? roller...so i bought it! And here it is... -I had put my Merv next to it to see sizes... First thing i made to it...as put a "women" behind the wheel...and a 1/5 wing on the body! I think i will stick to a stock motor...since this motors are 50mm diamenter and 110mm long. It's a TPPOWER motor already. I don't think i will be using a 1/5 motor on it....
