dark_shadow
Hopefully later on today, I'll breaking in on the engine of my new Savage 25 limited edition! Now, i'm hoping to break in at an empty car park behind my brother's shop. Now whilst breaking in, should I do it on a brick or leave it on the ground? I'll be using 25% O' Donell fuel Any other advice would be appreciated for breaking in, as it's my first time using a nitro engine and also breaking in on a new engine. Thanks
madmanluke
you sshould get a piece of card board with the car that doubles as a stand, if not mount it up on some bricks. try wrapping the engine up with tin foil to get it up into the 100- 120 degrees c range. would be more helpfll if you had a tempreture gun. try not to touch any needles untilll the engine is run in fullly and ready to be tuned
Big T
You will get a dvd with the Savage and it details the running in procedure, just follow that and you shouldn't go wrong. Try and run it in where you have access to a dvd player so you can check on anything if your not too sure. Or if you can't manage that try and get access to this website and check LEE69's signature, he has the full tuning guide linked in it. Leopard
Everyone has a different method for running in engines. Personally ive been there, done that and i now favour the 'Heat Cycle' method

waz
Heat cycling is basically a means of getting the engine to optimum temprature whist beaing run in, allowing the piston and sleeve to expand fully, hence reducing stress on the internals. Basically you wrap the head in something such as foil, (MAKE SURE YOUR RECEIVER WIRE IS NO-WHERE NEAR THE FOIL, IT COULD CAUSE INTERFEARANCE AND YOU DON'T WANT A ENGINE BEING BROKE IN TO RUNAWAY!) Get the engine to between 190 and 260 degree's farenheight, and vary the revs, don't let the engine rev to high, or very high at all for the first tank of running, first tank is idle, Gradually keep increaseing the RPM's over a number of tanks and by tank 8 you should be doing speed runs and have leaned the needles out enough to run, with the high speed leaned out enough to get you a decent amount of rev's but still omitting huge amount of blue smoke, but if it's too rich you'll be putting stress on the conrod. Actually I'll stop there, if you want to know more, ask, but you're best off googling it to get a proper article
