Second hand Savage

when you buy a second hand savage what are the key points you look at?

The price, the cheapest you can get it for, since most people wont tell you what is wrong with it and you could end up spending a lot more than you think, since i bought a few savages recently, and the guy told me they were mint, when i got them home 1 the engine crankcase was split! the secound one had chewed gears in the tranny and the diff was murdered, so watch out!

Look at the teeth on the diffs, check to see the engine doesn't move at all by hand, check the mount for cracks, check the chassi braces, see if the TVP's are straight, check wheel hex's ect.

Nothing better than starting her up and giving a few high speed test runs. Make sure engine fires OK, no unsual tuning problems (could be caused by blockages, air leaks etc). This will also help make sure there are no big problems with the tranny and diffs.

basicly just look at the truck top to bottom carefully just to make sure that nothings cracked, twisted if its ment to be straight, if its bent see if you can bend it back with out weakening it.

also do what yoclick said, just to make sure you didin't miss anything.

this is the spec that i was sent:

Centre Skid - Keeps all the crap out the car and protects the drive train.

4 Spider diff front and rear - the strongest diff setup you can get

HCR titanium skid plate - Protects the front bumper from dents

RC Total carbon fibre chassis - Very strong and light

RC Total radio box - Alot easier to use than the standard box

Hitec 5645 Digital servo - Nice and powerful to give you a good turning circle.

FastLane shock towers - allows you to adjust the shock position,

lowering and raising the car.

FastLane aluminium diff cups - Strengthens the diffs more than the

plastic cases.

Hyper 7 rear buggy shocks - Gives a smoother ride than the stoch 8

shocks and is also lighter.

Velocity 6 ½" offset wheels - Gives alot more stability than the

standard wheels.

Maxx mulcher tyres - Some of the most grippy tyres you can get

Aluminium chassis brace's - Adds rigidity to the car.

Custom hinge pin braces - Stronger than the standard ones

HPI air filter - Gives the best air filtering around

K4.6 – Had about a gallon through - A very powerful engine and easy to tune.

3 shoe clutch - Gives better acceleration and less clutch slip

Fuel filter - Makes sure that no dirt can get into the engine.

5 rechargeable AA battery pack – 2000mah - Lasts alot longer than the

standard battery packs.

Throttle linkage mod - Very adjustable breaks and throttle.

S-25 fuel tank - The engine runs better, no leaning at half tank

47t spur gear - Fast top spead

18t clutchbell - Fast top spead

HPI HD dog bones – Rear - The strongest dogbones available

MIP CVD's - Front - Constand velocity joints like are used in real

cars. better acceleration and more economical.

HPI HD centre drive shaft - Strong

HPI HD diff cups - Strong

Roto start – with modified switch so no more jammed buttons.

Tsais hard anodised tuned pipe - The best tuned pipe you can get

3 speed gear box - more gears = faster

as i said i dont know much, it was originally a savage 21, not sure which bits come as standard & what has been modded

Looks pritty sound, best to give it a once over in person if poss, and thunderous, you dont want to bend bent metal, this will stessen the already weak structure of it and probally cause it to snap, Any reason for not buying new kieran ?

I know the guy who used to have it, is his name Phil by any chance?

he got the radio box and rollbar especially made by some Spanish person i think, tis hella a good truck :)
