Too late to join the Savage party?

Basically, I'm looking to get my first ever Nitro Monster Truck. I was wondering if it would be worth in getting a Savage 25 rtr or is the S25 due to phase out anytime soon?

Since it'll be my first nitro truck, I want it to be a worthwhile investment, so that it's a little 'future proof'. Would I be wise to jump on the bandwagon and get savage now or hold out till a better MT is annouced some time next year?

Or, go for a 4.6 kit (Which could be a bad idea, I know next to nothing about nitro kits) or maybe go for the Traxxas Revo.

I'll be bashing (but not as hardcore as you guys :P ) so my only requirements are:

1) Reasonably fast

2) 'Future proof' I.e. Worthwhile investment

3) Prefferably an rtr or a simple kit to build?

Looking forward to suggestions B)

For me it has to be the Savage - it is a well established product much better (in my opinion) than that of the Traxxas offerings.

If you like kit building then get yourself and SS ass this will give you the insight into the sheer quality and build offered by HPI along with expanding your knowlege of how the parts fit together in case of a breakage - if not then grab yourself a RTR.....

Enjoy the Savage mate they are the dogs jewels....

A savage fits that perfectly.

I'm like you and only bash, just a bit of fun for me :)

I would say go for the 4.6 as it has some of the hop ups you will want and doesn't cost that much more than the 25rtr. If you are not too keen on building it go for the 25RTR. For bashing the Savage is the way to go, I have heard the Revo will break alot easier and there is nothing more frustrating than going out to have a good bash and then break something within 2 minutes(like I did last night).

But if you are confident at building go for the 4.6, I can't see it being any harder to maintain than the 25.

Yeah, I was always scared of building kits, but I bought my HPI R40 which is quite an advanced kit and built it in a few hours.

If you go for the 4.6 get a few of the guys from here on your msn buddy list so you can ask questions as you build. Thats what I did and I was so happy when I had finished. When your finished you will wonder what you were worried about.

HPI instuctions are brilliant and very detailed.

If its any help I am new to Nitro, and wasn't sure what to get, and these guys kindly helped me choose, I went for a savage SS 4.6 which is kit form. The instructions are easy to follow, and the two difs and the gear box were already assembled (more complicated parts). It took me about a day and a half to get it ready for running in. Its a nice kit and you learn how it all goes together so if you do have a smash you know how to replace parts, also the savage has lots of spares and hop ups available, as I was worried about getting parts, but its very popular so no probs. With the 4.6 you will need to get radio gear though. If you want HPI let you download the instructions as a PDF from there europe site, and near the start it tells you what tools ect you will need:

As of yet I have only run the engine in so cannot coment on the abilities of the truck, but after seeing loads of videos of them on the net they look rugged!

Yes the Savage is your best investment.

Id recommend the 4.6 SS all the way, its fun in its self building it up.

And if you get stuck on anything, just logon to this forum.

The RTR 25 is a fantastic choice if you want ready to run.

A friend of mine is holding out for the limited addition 25, he patient enough to wait for that to arrive in the box, but not to build one.

Say that you know practically nothing about nitro's, would the 4.6 still be easy to build?

Whilst the S25 RTR is great value for £315, An Extra £85 (Really stretching the budget at £400), gets you a much better engine, tuned pipe, better tyres and rims, Acoms Radio (Better than Hpi's radio, I assume)

On the other Hand, the S25rtr is pre-built and includes a rotostart as oppsed to the 4.6's pullstart.

I'm pretty damn stuck for decision! Whilst bang per buck is important, aswell as speed, I have practically no idea on what to go for <_<

To me the decision comes down to one thing........do you think you could build a kit?

If you think you can then go for the 4.6.

Yes the 25 comes with a roto start, but you can buy that for the 4.6. The roto starts are not the most reliable, the button can jam on (I'm sure Lee has experienced this already) and the gears inside can chew up. My mates one killed the internals within a week, we don't know why, and it cost about £35 to replace.

Have a look at HPI's website and look at the instruction manual, if you think you can follow it (which I'm sure you could) then the 4.6 is the way to go.

I'v whizzed through the manual, looks pretty complex and hard but I feel it's fool proof if I follow instruction as shown. (Does the HPI DVD come with this kit?)

Thundersaurus, As I'v stated, I can get the Savage25 RTR £315 delivered. I wouldn't touch that website with a lardge bardgepole! My nephew could probably produce better . . . ;)

I hate making decisions :(

Yeah you will get the DVD with the kit. If for some reason you didn't get one, I think LEE69 has links to the video in his sig.

When you build you also have the back up and help of all the guys on here.

tunning vids are in my sig.

tbh i wouldnt judge a site to buy or not to buy,if they can deliver for cheaper, than a "nicer" site i know which i'd buy.

I stripped mine down the other day to do the 3 speed box and reverse, really enjoyed seeing how it all goes together.

Depends how confident you are with such stuff.
