Nitroholic
In simple terms, I am planning a respray job of a RTR buggy, and wondered if it was possible to remove the paint so I could respray..or if the only way to do this would be to buy a new shell. I would rather not do that ... and won't bother if there isn't a reliable way of stripping. Also...how do you tell what the shell is made out of? I know different paint is needed for different shell materials..so again..knowing the material is rather important!
53HRA
Brake fluid or nitro fuel can strip the shell depending on how strong the paint is on the shell. Most shells are either lexan or ABS.Lexan is thin and clear and ABS is thick and not clear(normally comes in white for unpainted shells)
Nitroholic
Pretty sure it is lexan then. Where the side of the chassis rubs the paint has come off a bit, and it is clear underneath. I'll try a bit of stripping in an area that doesn't show ( under a sticker ) and see how it goes. As long as the fluid won't hurt the lexan! Had visions of dunking it in Nitromors and watching the shell shrivel up like a slug in a salt-mine!
a-x-l-e
Of the two I have had the most success with nitro fuel. I posted this in another similar thread, this is a shell I have painted and stripped a few times.... Overall and putting aside my lack of painting skills its not too bad. I stripped a stock CRT.5 body a few weeks back and the factory paint came away very easily. I soaked kitchen roll in nitro so it was fairly wet and pressed it onto the shell for a few mins, light rubbing took the paint off and left a nice almost crystal clear shell. egg80
nitro fuel work great i did it on the hyper7 in my sig but be careful what cloth material you use to rub off the paint as it might cloud your shell good luck post up your new paint job

Nitroholic
Alcohol strips the paint of in seconds Noooo..I am not cracking open the Jack Daniels to strip the shell no matter what! I will give the nitro a try though...I have some old and unwanted 16% ModelTechnics fuel that I wouldn't sully a real engine with, so I can try it on that. a-x-l-e
Let us know how you get on. I forgot to add, I have tried this with a couple of fuels and had mixed results for the amount of effort needed. With 16 and 25% Monster Nitro Juice both stock/factory and Tamiya paint came away fairly easily. With Morgan Sidewinder 25% it took a lot more effort to strip the shell. I don't know about blend differences between the fuels but the Sidewinder felt a lot more oily on the hand which could be a factor in the stripping process.
