More hassle than its worth ?

Hi I am absolutly sick of my buggy still having bad engine problems. Stalls clogged flooded engines after high speed runs. It seems its just more hassle than its worth. All i want is a engine that doesent stall that i can run around the park/roads and i just cant seem to sort the engine out. Keep leaning the thing and its still guzzling fuel spitting raw fuel out the exhaust tonnes of smoke. Also costing loads of money to sort out all the time. Took it out tonight ran up and down the street seemed alrite at first nice accereration just into 2nd gear turn the car round to bring it back same again with the easy throttle and random stall. So kept leaning and running and then the engine started getting really bad. Stalling at any throttle at all it will only sit at idle. Then i tip the car up and a loads of raw fuel comes out the exhaust. Start then car again and theres dripps of fuel out the exhuast and another stall. I am really fed up with this. I thought this was suppost to be a fun hobby. Seems to me its just not worth the hassle. So you will have to convince me to carry on. Thinking of taking it to the local hobby store and asking them to set it up but then i dont know how much this will cost.

how much do you think a hobby shop will charge to tune the engine ? I really cant see me sorting this car out. Almost like something has broken. I think the car may have a airleak where the tube goes from the fuel tank to the carb. see the pic. Also my new glowplug seems to have burnt arount the coil again. Only put it in wednesday this week and only done around 3 tanks of fuel.

hi nitro is a loooonng learning process ive been into hobby 5 years and still struggle sometimes tuning nitro engines. check all the buggy for various problems eg leaks loose items, return it to factory settings and retune with a fresh glowplug and everything fully charged, the high speed needle first, then the low and finally the idle screw, only turn the high and especially the low speed needles around 1/16 turn at a time until no performance increase is seen. the idle gap when you remove the air filter should be roughly 1mm. did you research the car before you bought it? are acme any good how much was it? dont prime it too much when youre trying to start it, take the glowplug out and pull the pullstart with the model upside down to clear the system and replace everything then put your finger over exhaust and pull again till fuel reaches the carb then start as usual and tune it!

Hi i know how to start it. I just cant stop this stalling. You say to go back to factory settings but then the car will be more richer and more difficult to keep running. My glow plug has had it after 3 tanks of fuel. I think i may have a airleak though between the carb and the fuel tank

May seem a silly question but which way are you tunring the the needle??

Clockwise is leaning on the HSN. Chances are if you are popping glow plugs you are running too lean. Go back factory and it will run. You say it will be more difficult to run? I'd say not unless you're doing it wrong. I can run on factory for ever, just have no power.

As previously said, replace glow plug, back to factory, run a tank just to see how it feels and start leaning off the HSN 1/8 a turn at a time until you feel there isn't an improvement and then turn it back 1/16 and see how it goes. Make sure you haven't mistaken your LSN for your MSN which you should never touch.

The buggy is still to rich If its flooding itself at full throttle there is still raw fuel being spat out and lots of smoke. So it still needs leaning

If you return it to stock settings and it STILL won't run, then there is a problem somewhere else that tuning just isn't going to solve. If the motor is running lean, then the most likely problem is an air leak somewhere. Check all the fuel pipes are well xonnected and nothing is leaking. Make sure the exhaust is properly attached and that the air filter is on properly and the connections are properly sealed.

As has been mentioned above, a buggy on stock settings out of the box is usually set up to be a 'safe' runner, just not optimised for power. Mind you....the stock settings as listed in the manual isn't always what you get on the buggy. I have had idle screws setup with no gap at all from the factory right through to wide enough open to cause 'issues' if the wheels had been on the ground....

Carefully wind the HSN in all the way, and then back it off the specified number of turns to get your baseline, check the idle leaves about 1mm opening on a closed throttle and put the LSN to stock the same way. Don't trust it to have been right out of the box. Then look for a physical issue.

I must admit, if there is a quantity of raw fuel building up in the exhaust, that is not a good sign. There will always be a small quantity of unburnt fuel coming out, but not much.

sounds like a nice big air leak somewhere, and by the sounds of it either ur glow plug is threaded or your head bolts are loose if it sounds like the glow plugs out when u pull it over.

This will be exactly what u dont want to here but u really need to pull it all out ie tank, engine, fuel lines

clean them all up and check them all for air leaks, 90% of the time an odd tune or a tune that changes during a run can be put down to air leaks. Youl need to seal ur carb screws, needles and neck, seal the engines head back plate and exhaust. Check the fuel tank for a leak ie a whole or duff seal on the lid and finally check or simply replace the fuel line as its cheap anyway.

use the best tools you have when u strip the car as you dont want to strip screws on the engine etc as theyl be a pain to sort out

don't be put off nitro's biggrin.gif ....your main problem really is acme to be fair are below average models very cheap ....i would think about selling it and buying somthing from hobao, hpi, schumacher etc you'll have a much better experience with a quality model.

The ultimate solution..........................

Save and save a little more.........................

get a petrol , 2 pulls and away you go , bliss bl;iss bliss

after all loads of people have given advice how to tune it,

go to factory settings.

if she idles with out creeping forward, perfect,

if she bogs at high speed, lean the h needle off 1/8 ,

try again, ..........................................

Acme condor Pro. Engine is a Team infinity 18

i think that's half your problem. sure I'll get shot down for suggesting it but I think those engines are a pile of poop. my mate has one in his car and he cant even get the thing to start. Factry settings make no difference. fuel poured into carb makes no difference. new glow plug no difference. random carb settings no difference. LMS managed to start it and ran it for all of abot 5 minutes before it stopped and it's never run since.

I felt exactly the same way as you do when I first got my hyper but a chat with my local shop and reading around on here I can get it running sweet no problem. I still have to have to odd session tuning when the weather changes - for some reason my engine is ultra sensitive to changes in weather - but i can always get it going for a reasonable bash around.

Took car in the garage attempted to start with current settings on the hsn and it wouldnt start. shook the car and raw fuel came out the exhaust. adjusted HSN back to facotyr settings. Eventually car starts but have to put loads of constant revs in to stop it stalling. I have a video of it and i will upload that shortly. Your probably right these cars are a pile of poop. Wish id never got it now waste of money.

Ok not got the video uploaded yet as it needs converting first. Anyway the buggy is starting and stalling so i premsume the glowplug has gone like last time. There is something very strange going on with this car. I worked out that i leaned the engine so from where i was there was only 1 and a half turns needed to be fully lean. as i leaned it it seemed more rich and there was more unburnt fuel coming out of the exhuast. Ist probably nbot worth doing anything with. Still it cost me
