Interceptor 650

Didnt find this till today so could some one help me on hopping my interceptor up. I'm looking to obviously make it alot faster can this be done? 600-700 motor 8.4v-9.6v battery and a better prop. Its stock with 540 motor (7.2v battery) at moment as goes about 5mph. lol. How fast would it go with these extras. My esc is a sea rover 15Amp will this take it?

Thanks

hi mate

ok a 19t car motor will do but you need to adjust a few things but yeah you can make it alot faster.

first of when using a better low turn motor you will build up heat quick, to combat this you can buy a water jacket, this coils around the motor/s to cool them with water. you will need to make two holes in the boat one will be on the side so water is forced away from the boat, the next hole needs to be placed near the rudder and will look like a scoop this forces water into the fuel tube around the motors coil jacket and back out into the lake. this keeps the motor/s cool and the insides too. batterys can be used try upping the mah to 3000 this will give the boat more grunt. you may also want to look into a new prop to give more power. speed comes from the water screw and the motor so more turns on motor a better screw is needed that produces more power or push

Water jacket later just electrics first its confusing. I've just seen a video or a traxxas villain with a single motor (brushless) and jumps out of water and goes 35mph + 12cells too. Brushless good?

yeah mate brushed or brushless but if water damage brushless more expensive to replace. have a look and see what turn motor your esc can take then start using a higher turn motorgo for a 20 or 21t first then start building from there. my self will get mine in the water but have other progects an sports to do :D. also tru using a 7 cell pack stick type with a cell across the end you may need to equal out the balance so check in a haf fill bath for the sit in water

Right motor and esc+batts first.

1. 700 motor (do these need brushes?) 12 cells and i duno what esc can be used. But this might weight the boat down.

2. Brushless set up (costs loads) and 12 cells.

Which one you think would be faster and better with say 9.6Volts?

Cheers

1 yes they do take brushes

2 around £200+ easy

best stick with 540 and boot up the cells this will give ample fun while you look into other mods using twelve cell you will need to use a water jacket for certain.

Right No brushless (does aeroplane brushless cost loads saw 1 for £43)

Thinking 700bb motor (or just 700), and on 12 cells.

Duno what the limit of a 15A sea rover is though. (only 7.2V and worth £35)

What motor would run best with 9.6-12V battery packs?

600, 650 or 700? and do you know of a suitable esc?

Don't go for a 700 you will need to change the motor mount and make some major mods to the boat, your boat is not able to take 12 cells or a 700 I would say. I would just whip a modified 540 motor in it and change the esc to run a higher turn motor), 8.4v will make a lot of difference but really consider fitting water cooling first as it makes a huge difference. First step would be to buy a cheap 8.4v pack id say, you will notice the difference.

a 700 or 600 motor is alot bigger than the 540. the mountings will need to be changed and also the angle the stuffing tube protrudes from the hull. a 700 motor plate will be needed.

advantage with mod 540 is that it will stay nearly the same weight but power will be gained from using a better motor and a 8v power source

why not 700 are they just longer?  and why couldnt it run 700 and 12cells what would happen?

12 cells would just be to heavy for the boat of that size even if you tried I reckon it would just be to tippy and that bot isnt self righting, you just want a bit of fun so just put in a mod motor and a 7 cell pack and it will be plenty fast, i think you can buy a prop for that boat a few mm bigger too that will be better if putting in a mod motor.

I ran a bath this morning and i put 2x 7.2V battery packs into in and a 4.8v battery and it dropped by about 1/2-1inch. So i thick/hope the floating bit is ok.

540, 600 and 700 motors are they all the same length round (circumference)?

700 is bigger, you can try 12 cells but id fit water cooling in and seal off the opening hatch with electric tape.

Laughing potato recommended a 625 motor running 12volts so that my main choice i think but there is a 700bb on ebay for £1. Can any motor run 14.4volts but it has to stay cool?

 whats a 625 motor? No 14.4 volts is alot it would cook a 540 or 600 motor.

Yer that motor is the same width as a 540 YAY but found out cant use a 700 as the ditch where the motor goes it too narrow for a 700 unless i get some sort of mount that holds it in the air but then the angle may be different.

yep mate the can wont fit because of the hulls shape stick with a 540 or a 600 but add water cooling this will help lots. get a slightly larger waterscrew and hook up some cells. i would only test in shallow water that you can rescue the craft from incase of a sink

good luck an hope it works

Rite overlander havn't emailed back yet so its either the 625 or a graupner speed 600bb turbo (14.4Volts). Does anyone know of a esc that could handle 14.4volts and a 600 motor. About £30 and widly available.

Also is this true say the graupner 600 on 14.4volts and a 10x4 540 motor running 7.2volts. They both go the same speed. Cant see how this it the 600 must have wey more torque? :helpsmilie::helpsmilie::helpsmilie:

Found 1 operates from 6-42VOLTS!!! £35 won't be getting for a few weeks though. When my boat is done how fast do you think it could go and when i go from standing still the the front be thrown out of the water like a jump?

Thanks

Hmm probably if the water is a bit choppy. It might be a bit heavy though with all the cells your putting in.
