Like Matt said, it isn't worth it unless your a hardcore racer. The weight difference between the ally' one is minimal and if you hit it badly it snaps. :(

Don't get Gorilla Chassis from UK either, well expensive.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have an E-Maxx. It isn't stock. In fact, it would be far quicker for me to list the stock parts on it than all the hopups. So here goes: bumpers + mounts, bodyposts, motor plate, transmission case (well, half of it anyway). That is all... :P

I know you've seen my E-Maxx many times before Matt, but I've got the new Gorillamaxx single-speed coversion on it now! :D

It basically locks the transmission in 2nd gear, completely removing half of the transmission including 1st gear (along with one idler gear and half the top shaft), meaning the shifter servo and linkage can also be removed. You could just leave the E-Maxx in 2nd gear and never use 1st, but with this mod my truck lost a total of 185g (~6 oz.) in weight. Not a huge amount by any means, but every little bit helps, and the truck is now just under 12lb RTR.

The brushless setup I am running pretty much made 1st gear useless anyway, but now I can just blast around without ever having to think about changing gear again.

I did have a problem using it with my generation-1 set of the Ultramaxx gears though, as the GMaxx 'coupler' which locks into the 2nd gear, doesn't fit.

As you can see, the coupler has straight edges at the top/bottom where it slots into the 2nd gear, which fit the stock gear perfectly. However, the Ultramaxx 2nd gear has rounded edges, meaning that the coupler will not fit into the gear without some modification. As I don't have the facilities to modify the gear/coupler so that they will fit together properly, I am now just using the stock plastic 2nd gear, with one Ultramaxx idler. And it's running great, no problems so far... :D

lol, get a dremel toon and get that baby sorted!

i used to run a modified tranny which was locked via a couple of self tappers! lol.

but candyman gave me the tranny at a good price so, i wnwent for that, its has supermaxx idlers and ultramaxxed dmain drives.

there all sweet but on 16cells weight aint a problem! lol

Cheers
