joe.lel
Hi there, hope someone here can help me. I am looking to buy my little lad an rc car, he is currently 2 1/2. He is actually very good with them but obviously at that age cannot handle speed too well. I am looking for something that he can drive around the lounge, on the tarmac outside, and in the back garden/over the park when i am running my nitro. The emphasis here is on torque rather than speed, as he likes to try and run stuff over LOL. Any ideas???? I so far have been looking at the Mini-z (but might be a bit small), i have an RC18t but even with an 11t pinon it is still a bit quick. The Tamiya lunchbox looks good, but i dont know how quick that goes!! Any suggestions?? A rock crawler i take it would be ideal, however they seem very expensive at around

joe of loath
How about a crawler? If he likes to run stuff over? But he might get annoyed when he gets older and can handle the speed. Maybe an ansmann royal flash with a crawler motor in? It's 4wd, and the crawler motor won't overheat like every other motor seems to in there. joe of loath
http://modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=Show...mp;ItemID=29354 You probably couldn't get one for a mini though, at least not without a mix and match brushless system from ebay components. TiM!
Mini slash or revo. You can tone down the speed with a block of foam behind the trigger, then when he grows up you can take it out for 30+mph. Then when he grows some more get the other battery pack for 50+ mph. And its something that will last as he grows up.
HappyLad
The little lad is only 2.5 yrs old Wouldn't something big and brash be more suitable?? Even a "toy" class vehicle?? Maybe something like this??
joe.lel
Whoops, double post, thanks for the info guys And he is a VERY forward 2.5 year old Edited July 14, 2009 by joe.lel
Si Coe
Use the RC18, just adjust the setup so he can't get full speed. Use the foam block trick, or better yet a transmitter with end point adjustment. I've toned down race spec cars so my 3 year old nephew can drive them using this method. There are a few 18th scale crawler motors as a couple of companies make 18th crawlers, but good luck finding one! Also - Lead. Stick on Lead. Weight the car down, lots. Makes it slower and also, if done right more stable and easier to drive.
mrklaw
how fast do you think he'll get used to the speed? You could always sell it on and get a proper buggy/truck once he's more capable which might be a while? I'd go for a losi mini rock crawler. Not super fast, but perfect for indoors - almost any 'normal' rc will be too fast for indoors, even a micro-t is a bit too nippy. Can crawl over stuff indoors or out, and later on you could always update the esc/motor/gearing for more speed - more of a rock racer than crawler.
