yet another hamster project

Recommended Posts

well this is the latest project [given up on the boat till i get bl in the slash and can donate an electric setup to the cause]. its a tamiya 1/16 leapard a4 tank, its quite old with a single motor design, the steering is done by a double clutch mechanism. today me and rc l33 finished off the second track and tested to motor, everything runs great, now all we gotta do is get an esc [save the rather crude single speed switch mechanism lol] as we have the radio gear and servos.

after that all that we need to do is put on all the details and paint it up

heres some pics:

Nice :)

Got a vid?? :)

sorry not yet, we did link up a batt to it to see it running and everything worked great, got electric is so much better to work with than nitro.

i was talking to my boss about that particular one and he said it was very expensive when it first came out but the guy who owns it says he didn't pay a lot for it [but it was new]

I have got the sherman from around the same era but mine has two motors with what looks to be the same clutch setup. The metal tracks on mine are the same design too. They are pretty powerful....

yeah, when we connected up the battery the tracks seemed to be spinning at some rate.#

our biggest worry was the little connectors, not all of them fitted well so we had to take a pair of pliers to em.

gonna be pretty sweet when its finished

@keiran, that would have been ok but it'd already been half built, the running gear and one track were already made for it. still, provided we don't break anything it will be nice

That's a beauty! What size motor is that in there? An Mtroniks eco 27 ESC would work, and it's waterproof. Not sure if I'd take that plugging, but it's good to have the equipment to do so :)

its a 540 [i think], kirby has donated a tamiya esc to the proceedings and once i have soldered the wires up on the servo we will have everything we need

Excellent! Now you need to transplant one of those BB gun turrets from a knock off onto it. My friend has one, great fun :D

 the turret isn't controlled, indeed if you turn it 90* it will come off [for maintenance i suspect]

would be fun to try it though

alright so we got the running gear in today and all i can say is wow, we had come problems with the links in the tracks coming off but it was very good all round. we also got nearly all the details onto the turret, all we need is a lot of paint

For more info on tanks and building them, try the RCU Tank forum, great guys on there and they have a wealth of knowledge,I was gonna get the Leopard A6 last year instead of the Baja and the guys over on RCU were a great help when I had the Abrams.one of the guys is a film set model maker and worked on the original Star Wars movie.... ;)

550 then, hmmmm. tbh it doesn't matter, as you can see the stocker has a fair turn of speed to it.

the tracks are still a bit of a bother though, the connectors kept coming off so we had to glue them on. problem is its easy to find em on flat concrete but say up at the quarry etc we would have no luck finding a baja size wheel nut let alone one of them tiny things
