Also if you have any other tips that can help me out i would appreciate it.
7zark7
RTFM!! its all in the manual, prime the engine by putting your finger over the exhaust and pulling the pull starter a few times until the fuel reaches the engine and is free of air bubbles. Dont do this with a glow starter attached. The air filter just pulls off, its only held in place by a zip tie. The inner foam is what needs to be oiled, remove the outer foam by undoing the screw and removing the end cap, you can then remove the foams. Clean them with nitro fuel, re-oil the inner foam (the white one) and put them back together. Edited June 19, 2005 by 7zark7
dazzi220
yeh all air filters are the same - just sponge, clean it in a bit of fuel and put some after run oil on it, lol phoenix, you built it but can't prime it, i can prime no probs its the building part that gets me in the nutz have fun! what does RTFM!! stand for 7zark7 Edited June 19, 2005 by dazzi220
123456
As they said really. Stick your thumb over the exhaust and give it a few pulls on the old starter. It should then kick it into life.
waz
I have found now when I try that with my 4.6 the one way just slips, so I prime it by blowing into the pressure pipe, then just pull twice and I'm off.

You should get a tank with a primer-then you can just prime it once-stick your thumb on the exhaust then spin or pull the starter!! I knew my LST was the right choice. waz
Got the roto backplate on now, yea thing is it was okay doing that at the start but my savvy has almost 2 galls through it now and the one-way bearing isn't liking it much, might be time for a new one soon. Primerless tank is the only way to go for reliability. Blocking the exhaust is by far the best way to prime an engine, you will NEVER flood it this way. Primers have a habit of pushing a bit too much fuel it at the end (when trying to clear air from the fuel lines), blocking the exhuast creates a backpressure to stop fuel entering the engine, preventing floods. dazzi220
how come u don't get a button on the tank with the 4.6?
rc007
how come u don't get a button on the tank with the 4.6? ← because hpi stopped doing a primer tank when the savage 25 rtr came out, good move IMO as there more trouble that there worth! waz
The 21 was the only savage that came with a primer, HPI decided to ditch it thereafter as it just causes too manyy problems.

123456
Yeah the primer button on tanks do seem to cause a lot of people problems with air leaks. I barely use the button on my LST-usually just thumb over the exhaust then just crank it with the roto start a few times-then it fires up. 123456
take the air filter off, drop a little fuel in. pop it back on and fire it up. that way you will not flood the engine.

Dark_phoenix
ive just finished the breakin-in, and im trying to get the Savage to idle, im findin it hard to stop the wheels from movin, ANY TIPS ? Am i the only 1 that has a problem with the glow plug starter runnin out of power. , also how long do you need to leave the glow plug starter in the car, coz after i have start the engine, i take the starter out the sec the engine starts then the car shouts down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dazzi220
the carb needs setting, turn the idle screw anti clockwise to close the carb a bit, keep tuning it until the wheels stop spinning (1-2mm gap) if its still spinning the linkages need adjusting Edited June 20, 2005 by dazzi220
waz
as he said above to keep the engine idling, but you kgiht struggle to keep it idling with the low speed being so rich. The reason your car cuts out when you remove the starter is because the engine is too cold. This is because the engine is very rich. Once you have given it some revs, warmed it up you can remove the starter and you'll be fine. Oh, and my starter doesn't run out of power on a field day 4000mAh, 20 quid from RCMart. 123456
why won't it flood? ← I am talking about a little drop of fuel. It will not flood the engine and it kicks the engine into life for me.

If your engine is properly tuned, and properly primed it will start straight away. Taking off your air filter in the field is not a great idea either.
