lofty
Ok. I got a new rc buggy kit - tamiya gravel hound - and fitted it with an esc as standard. Because i wanted to use my better motor, i brought a better esc. While running the car this afternoon, it stopped being able to move for around 10 - 50 seconds and the esc turned off during this time. I am not sure if this is caused by overheating (it wasnt very hot), faulty connections to the battery (but the steering still worked) or weather it is just a buggered ESC. Please help. waz
Could be the battery low on power or the throttle connection from the esc to the receiver might be loose.

liberal123
Is it definatly down to the ESC? not a motor fault?
lofty
its a fairly new motor but i guess i could try the 540 stock one. Only thing is that i know that the esc turns off, its got a little red light, i ran it with the top off quick and it went off. Afer about 30 seconds the light came back on. liberal123
Sometimes can be wether it has a signal or not, try running your old motor in there and then let us know dude
Tamiyacowboy
that is the auto shut down kicking in your esc, this happens if the esc is overloaded or has a fault try reprograming the esc if this fails try the stock esc. tamiya esc is only rated to 27 turn anything above this you run a overload/current drain risk. try contacking esc manufactor an see if they have had this problem, also check no stones are shorting out the fet's heat sinks (small fins on esc if it has them) what esc are you running mate and we will try and pin point your problem TC
lofty
ESC - Ripmax Xtra 'Volcano' Motor - 11 turn 'Monsters of Touring' double. The esc should be able to cope happily with anything up to 20 turns. Just about to try the stock motor.
Garry
Are you saying that its got a 20t limit? If so, then thats the lower limit (i.e. the quickest motor you can use is a 20t). The 11t would completely fry the ESC.

hyper-harry
The Ripmax Volcano esc has a 12turn limit as i used to own one and there not bad either so it can not be used with a 11turn motor the lowest you can go is a 12turn motor!

Its all too technical for me i guess i can use the stock until i have enough cash to get a new motor. *mumble*
lofty
uhm another question. The motors with lower turns seem to be much more expensive on the modelsportuk site. Are they better? Also, what is the max and minimum turn limit of the esc? thanks for any help.
liberal123
Basicly, the lower the turns number, the faster the motor, therefore the higher the price. Look up the turn limit for your ESC, if its 12 then you can have a 12turn motor or below (which is above in numbers) so you cna get a 15t motor for example, but you cant run a motor with a lower number of turns than your ESC will take, i.e 11 turn. Hope This Helps.
lofty
right, i think ive gotcha. On the ripmax site it says the ESC's 'motor turn' is 32 - 18. Does this mean i can run any motor with turns between 32 and 18? Because someone said it will run a 12 turn. Im really starting to get confused. liberal123
if it says 18t limit, you cant run any motors below 18 turn EDIT: just looked your motor up and it does have an 18 turn limit, so you can run any motor which is 18t+
lofty
so i cant run any motors below 18 turn? ie 18-1?
liberal123
no, 18 or above, becuase the lower the turn nmber the more powerfull, so you can run anything between 18-36 according to the desc of your ESC
lofty
looks like im gonna have to shell out for the no-limit =( damn my lack of knowledge!!!!
lofty
hooray, the modelshop says i can bring back the old one and spend 15 pounds to upgrade to the 'no-limit' Yipee for keeping the packaging!!
