Its here, the FTX Unitrak 1:18th builders kit, the Unimog version of the rock van, but this is a single speed with full metal gears, and will be purely for slow speed crawling, waiting for some bits from Injora so not starting the build just yet, im happy to say this may well end up a bit of a money pit, i wont be adverse to doing plenty of upgrades but need to keep it fairly stock to get a baseline on it first

Yesterday I picked up and carnage 2.0 locally for my little ones to bash (saves them from breaking mine lol) was rude not to for the price I paid

 

Today I got a tamiya mat, wheels for my 1/16 - 1/14 cars, low profile bullets, a load of body clips with retainers, slash 2wd sway bar kit, 2mm hex drill bit and a rc stand

So decided to completely 180 on the BBX idea and spend the money more wisely (and split the cost too)

My GF @Skyesgaming will be visiting me in September for a few weeks.  She's interested in learning more about my hobbies.  RC in this particular instance.  A couple of years ago we each built a custom Mechanical Keyboard each.  Same underpinnings but personalised aesthetics.  We both enjoyed this thoroughly so I suggested this morning we undertake the same exercise but with RC cars instead 🙂.  So we've settled on a couple of Tamiya DT03 kits. 

 

She's gone with the Neo Fighter which i picked up from a german ebay seller for not much money..

She's aware there will be a little bit of TAX on top.

 

And I grabbed the Racing Fighter from a guy in the UK..

I think youll enjoy that a lot more than the BBX, although Id definitely recommend picking up at least a bearing set for each

I've done some research and it needs 14, 5mmx11mmx4mm so I got a couple of 25 packs coming from eBay already they were 6 quid each 🙂.   Only other hop-up I want is the turn buckle set so I can teach @Skyesgaming about suspension geometry.  Everything else on the chassis can stay stock.  Anyone got a good motor/ESC combo recommend?  Mine is coming with a torque tuned can but no ESC and my GF's one doesn't have either coming with it.  We don't really want to be going any faster than 25ish mph  and I'd like to use LiPos over NiMH

Hobbywing 1060 esc for both id say and try to pick up another torque tuned

This rare little bad boy. This was my first ever Tamiya. I knew nothing about the hobby, my parents bought me one second hand. Its a bit sad really, because I feel like this is an RC ending...... I'll explain in another post, but here it is. The RC that started it all for me, back in 1994..... I think @Alex97 will like this one

 

I intended building this, but even my girlfriend, who moans about me not using my RCs enough said it would be a shame....

Nothing exciting, few various stainless steel fixings to finish the front end off with, not even worth a picture 😀

Got all but the last few things ordered.  Mine not as much cause I have a transmitter.  However, sans that, everything else (including some nice hop-ups and a DDF-350 for Skyesgaming) is new.  Batts everything 🙂 including paint. I'm going box art because I never have before 😄  Went with @Kpowell911's suggestion of 1060 Hobbywing and a second Torque Tuned motor for the GF and I'll have the same ESC with my included Torque Tuned.  It's been an expensive day..

 

 

Interestingly while we've been chatting my GF asked me what my first RC car was and my first 'hobby grade' was the Tamiya Fighter Buggy RX.  Looking for a picture to show her I realised it was on the DT-01 chassis (none of that ment anything to 17 year old me at the time.  I only ended up with it cause I'd gone in the shop to buy a Nikko and got convinced the Tamiya was better).

 

Sorry I'm rambling now.  Anyways, all in? Cheaper (If a little slower) than a couple of Traxxas Bandits and we get the fun of building them together too

I'd choose these over the big brands anytime now.  Except for Tamiya.  But that's personal cause I like to build them.

Knew I wasn't gonna be happy with the stock esc on the mjx 16210 plus none of my cars are "stock" so collected a 60amp esc and while I was there got a brushless motor for the carnage even though I said to myself I'm not gonna convert it as its for the kids 🙈

I'm going to talk with her tonight about the difference between and Alumin-I-um pinion and a Steel one.  Also the difference between Plastic Dogbones and drive cup and Alloy ones 🙂
