kieran
im going to get a new set of bearings for my yokomo mr-4tc sd tomorrow what would you recommend i get?
mth
just get a set of rubber shielded bearings..take one seal off and flush them out, re lube them and put them in your car (with the open side facing inwards so no dirt can get in)
teamyorkshireRC
or those metal sealed bearings from jangdstore, i use em in my TC3 and TC4 and they are top class. If you want them to super free, place them in the lid of a tin of brake and clutch spray cleaner, and spray them with the barke and clutch cleaner and they will spin about 5-10 seconds longer than without sparying them. mth
a good drivetrain will spin for about 7 seconds....a drivetrain that spins for about 10+ has a fairly heavy rotating mass. yes, a free drivetrain will spin easily but one that spins for a long time isn't good. metal shielded aren't the best, they are dust proof but not water proof....they will rust easier if you use your car when its wet..... 300ZXZ31
also gr1bbo wouldnt that just degrease them so that they run dry, i wouldnt think thats to good for the bearings.
teamyorkshireRC
Yeah true but I do put some Team Orion Speed Drops oil in so that should re-lube them?

rover1556
are teflon shielded bearings any good?
mth
not really...well i wouldn't say their crap but they aren't any better than normal rubber shielded bearings.
300ZXZ31
i heard ceramic bearing are the best but they are very pricy.
mth
lol, everyone thinks this...but they suck, only good thing about them is they are resistant to temperature more than steel ones (but our bearings don't get hot enough for that to effect anything anyway) they are brittle, rough and are overpriced for what they are. 300ZXZ31
o rite i think i read it in rrci and they said it freed up the drivetrain a bit. im not all that competative so i just use the ones that came with my mission
teamyorkshireRC
What type would that be?
Tamiyacowboy
i have ceramic eering in my skateboard and will say they knock the socks of the abec 7's i had not sure in rc as the wieghts carryed differ alot but while skating i found ceramics better as overheating didnt happen as much on the vert ramps any bearings will do just for bashing make sure you clean that real thick c**p grease out and relube with a good quality lube and thin coating, works for me al the time TC
mth
i'm suprised you aint shattered teh ceramics when you land....they are very brittle. the best bearings to get for smoothness are roller bearings, steel rollers to....because they are so free and smooth there is less friction so don't heat up very much at all. however if you get a heavy side impact they will often collapse..also fairly expensive (about 3.50 a bearing compared to about 2.80 for a normal ball one)
