Help... Confusion around mod 1 gearing and what I need

So I blew up my ESC and Motor in the X Maxx...

Been looking at this

Hobbywing EZRUN Combo MAX6 G2 - 5690SD 1250KV G2 or a castle creations combo

but then learnt that it wouldnt fit in the standard motor mount so added this

Roto-lok Motormount - for Traxxas Xmaxx & XRT

but now im told it needs different gearing, and gears and I have no earthly idea what the hell im meant to buy now and replace the gears with or if they are direct swaps etc...

Someone show me the light please!! 😄

What gears, spur, pinion etc.. do I need to look at/buy and is it a direct replacement or do I need to buy something else ??

This is where I miss nitro cars.

Ok the reason you need another pinion is the motor has an 8mm shaft, i am running (with jconcept magma tyres) a 54 tooth spur and a 24 pinion, i would say that if you are running stock wheels and tyres a 25 may work

So standard x maxx spur and a mod 1 (8mm) pinion - I have some louise rc wheel/tyre combo 🙂

thank you

Another point i will put in for the 54t spur, the pinion you will buy will be hardened steel, a hardened steel spur would be a good idea as opposed to the powered metal stock 1

Was looking at pinions etc the other night and came across these Arrma D shaped pinions might be worth a punt in case the dreaded grub screw comes loose on these big beefy motors you lads use in these things. How it fits the shaft is a good idea but the E-clip is useless unless you cut a little grove in the shaft for it to fit but its a good idea and all helps stop the pinion flying off and chewing up the spur.
