Brand new rovan baja or fg sportsline used?

Recommended Posts

I've sold my aowei yama today and I was wandering what should I get, a brand new rovan baja for 300 (excluding tax) or an fg sportsline (older version) with an evolution stage 2 engine on marketplace for also 300?

I like the style of the fg and heard good about them, same with the rovan except the engine. I'm looking at the 29cc version If that helps. I want something reliable, good handling and quite powerful. If you have any other options for a 1/5 around my 300 budget please let me know.

I have a couple of Rovans , a baja q shorty and a 5b converted to truck spec, however they are not standard.

I run single ring rovan 36 in both of them and they fly.

Support from Rcmodelz is great for them.

Never had an FG , but they do have a good reputation.

Seems cheap for a new Rovan by the way, wife paid 450 for my shorty baja when it was new.

Yeah, I found one on aliexpress for 350 and there's a £50 coupon for it, it's still 340 with tax (aliexpress sales are very good, got a hyper go for £75) but I think I'll go with the 29cc rovan as it's got more aftermarket support and I can go off road too. should be better than my yama. Are there any upgrades I should do when I get it? I heard the gearing is quite low and it tops out at 35 mph I was looking for around 45, maybe I can achieve that with a 2 speed transmission upgrade. I rarely bash my nitros/petrols I normally race my friend's eb4 s2 which is quick.

You can buy a high speed gearing set with a 19t pinion instead of 17t standard and main gear to suit.

Fit remote engine cut out .

Front chassis brace is a wise idea.

Then the sky is the limit.

I like the single ring 36 engine and better pipe in them , but then I modify all my cars as it is kind of my thing.

I just ordered some parts for a rovan shorty, someone wanted to trade 2 nitros for it and it is way louder than my yama, I got a stainless steel chassis brace and it's a 29cc, the only things I needed to buy were a clutch as it was burnt out and a chassis which was split at the weak point but I got some jb weld to fix it. All I have to do is wait for parts, what do you think of the 2 speed/ 3 speed transmissions for the shorty? I've had some for my nitros and they work well is it the same for petrols too? Can't wait to get it driving and popping wheeles on the field.

I would go with the 36cc single ring engine and high speed gearing over a 2 speed. not heard good reports about them other than the blackbone one sold by Taylor racing .

They will be overkill in a shorty I think, I would go for the 2 wheel wheely bar by the way , as mine used to end up upside down allot with the single wheel.
