Advice on building my own outdoor track

Hi all, new to the group. Want to build an outdoor track for 1/10 scale buggies. Got a few ideas but not sure how to build the track so it doesn’t get water logged etc and what surface to use.

i have an area of about 40m x 20m that I can use, it’s currently a grassy area, but looking to build a cool large track with a stand at one side. Pretty new to RC cars but now I have a large garden I want to get into it more. Might even open it up to local hobbyists so want to build it right.

any advice is welcome

I’ve never done this but the following comes to mind.
Have you drawn some ideas down on paper or scribbles on a photo on the phone? Could give you a visual aspect of what appeals. Then for testing I’d throw out some pegs or cones of some form to see if it suites your vehicles power.
For the ground some gravel under the surface or the flexi pipes with holes all along that get buried(is it French drains?) if it’s gonna pool with water.

This is all a bit permanent though and you may want to change up things as to not get stale, especially if your opening it up to others and they would maybe available down the line to help change things up.
Astro turf is a popular race surface, less clean up than dirt and easier to mover around. The same piping I mentioned above would probably work for edging.

I made a temporary track in my garden last summer, i just used lots of little cone things to outline it on cut grass, first time i had done any sort of track stuff

Looking at recreating something like this but maybe with some elevation changes

link didn't work

As for not getting water logged

Prepwork is kinda key

Idearly the tracks Dips needs to be higher than ground level

If the dips are going down further than ground level, you'd need to ensure there is somewhere for it to go

Either physical drainage like French drains to allow water to run away

or prep the ground with something like a soakaway crate, small stone, membranes so it drops down into the ground away

However a track that changes with weather means you have to adapt to conditions!

Going up for humps/slants/jumps/walls of doom

your probably better off with wooden setup and astro coating it give a surface!

as dirt ramps need maintaince as it will slowly slide away with wind/rail/use

heavy compaction needed as it'll help improve the lifespan and userbility

Shuttering the sides would also help! and even stepping the layers would also help.

if stepping is the right term

It's a challenge for sure, but worth it if its gonna be long term....
