Rear tyres for an old Duratrax Evader ST - Advice sort

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Am after any help / advice anyone can give me please.  I have been trying to find a new set of rear tyres for my aging but still working Duratrax Evader St with no joy.  Searching through the internet has not helped.  Every Hobby shop I have spoken to keep telling me they are no longer available and to just buy a new car.

The wheels on the car have pin connections so I can1 swap them for HEX wheels and tyres and am told the the Hex pin adapters won`t fit either.  Others who have the same old car must have also experienced my frustration.  I am also told any M3 2.2  tyres may well fit .  Have any of you guys managed to fit them to this model ??

All help / advice would be much appreciated - Cheers - Mick

Had to Google the car....

So yeah, the car doesn't use a Hex hub which slots over the cross pin on the axle

instead the actual wheel slots over the Pin instead....

What exactly stops you getting a set of Hex hubs to go over pins and then bolting a Hex wheel on instead?

I do worry a hub will mean no thread exposed to bolt down on, but some cars use a shallow Hex hub

Since its a 1/10th scale? your probably looking at a 12mm Hex hub

most stadium trucks are this size

Ebay seems to have some wheels but alot.are across the pond....

Failing that, it'd be ungluing and getting another set on....

‐----

The other mad thought is to see about swapping the Hub carrier all together off another model.... but it.runs risks of not been a direct fit etc

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I have looked at the options you suggest and hex adapters won`t work.  My only option is that of new replacement rear tyres.  I was hoping others on the forum might have found someone out there had managed to source some.  Seems such a shame to scrap the car.  They were a popular model over twenty years ago but I will continue to look on flea bay and pester as many old model shops for  NOS gathering dust on their shelves.  Wish me luck.

Cheers - Mick

Might be a case of swapping the rear hub carrier/axle/bearings and hoping the dogbone/camber link fit okay as well as no slop in the arm....

OK...assuming this is using rear dogbone type driveshafts, I would start by looking at the basics.

1) Rear axles. What size bearings do they use. If the internal radius of the bearing is known, something like an HPI Firestorm rear axle and hexes could be used. Shims or spacers might be required to get it to fit the driveshafts.

2) If the parts don't fit ... look for axle bearings with the correct external size for the hubs, and the right internal diameter for your donor axles.

3) If your wheels sit on pins fed through the axle, prevented from flying out by the wheel...This is how a lot of wheel hexes fit the axles. Measure your axle diameter, and look for parts that have the diameter to sit on teh axle OK. Then pin the hex in place. Again, spacers might be required to get things to sit where they are needed.

It all depends how much tinkering you are preapred to do. A photo of the axle with the critical dimensions might help us find you some parts that will work with standard 12mm 1/10 wheel hexes.

Thanks for all the replies.  I have now found rear tyres that fit my Duratrax Evader St.

They are Schumacher Vee - 2 Blue - Truck  U6502

Having spoken to loads of model shops who kept telling me they were not available Eventually found a fantastic shop the owner of which was so helpful I would recommend him to all others on this forum for advice and great deals.  Based in Dartford.
