Budget Racing Transmitter

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just wanted to see peoples opinions on budget racing radio sets

I currently use a Spektrum DX4C and SR315 receiver however I'm looking to go up to 7.4v to power my servo and I've read there are issues with doing this with set up I have so to avoid this I'm looking to change out my radio set prior to causing damage

What are peoples suggestions looking around the £120 max in terms of budget

TIA 🙂

have you thought about a separate BEC to power the servos ?

I'm running a XR8 pro so does have a pretty poky built in BEC, trying to eliminate extra things as the chassis its in is very tight for electrics

Dumbo set up is a good price and performance is spot on , well spot on for me slinging RCs about and you get a gyro built in to the receiver plus you can adjust said gyro on the fly if needs be 😃

https://www.amazon.co.uk/DUMBORC-Transmitter-Receiver-2-4ghz-Controller/dp/B08XLYR9KH  ( the old 6ch with basic adjustment dual rates etc )

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176128874451?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5339017907&toolid=10049&customid=EAIaIQobChMIgJaDo6mqiwMV01hIAB3ZUACdEAQYBSABEgIeAfD_BwE&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgJaDo6mqiwMV01hIAB3ZUACdEAQYBSABEgIeAfD_BwE ( New version 10ch all the adjustments you can ask for end points / mixing etc )

These  are the first links that popped up but can get them cheaper off AliExpress/ Banggood

Receivers with ( G ) at the end have the gyro and all the receivers can take up to 10v I believe.

I did look into the Dumbo DDF-350 as i believe its the same as a system Absima also sell (re-branded) and id like to where i can support companies over here etc, just wasn't sure on quality compared to a Spektrum system although yes mine is an old model

Aye they are sold over here but they are marked up way over what they are worth from what I have seen, I got both my old dumbo and new 350 off aliexpress for 1/2 the price some of these rebrands want.

Yeah i have seem them about for less but where i can id try to support LHS if the price is acceptable. Think the build quality is upto par on the DDF 350?

I run a flysky gt3c with the esc bec set to 7.4v on a couple of models, seems to work well

that being said that ddf350 with 10 channels seems a bargain from aliexpress  (had to go check what i had in my basket)

How do you find the GT3c, I just find it's an old model much like my DX4c

funny thin i just sold a GT3B loved it but i have damage to my fingers from a motorcycle crash years ago and though the radio was great it was uncomfortable for my bad hand, i went over to the HOTRC DS-4 as it suits right hand and is single handed use, looks toy grade but suits me just fine and works well, very cheap and think it can handle higher volts through RX

I find it has plenty options to set up your channels, really good range, comfy in the hand, receivers are cheap lightweight and small, rechargeable via micro usb, not laggy in operation and it looks good, yea its an older system but  not outdated  i think

Yip quality is brilliant the menu system is slow but it works. Trigger feels light but it's started to squeak so when I had it apart bit of grease fixed that, the wheel feels nice I got the foam version.

Only problem I have had with mine and cannot find anyone else with the fault on Google search is when steering the throttle comes on as well intermittently. I think it's the channel mixing playing funny buggers. It's not even turned on but I think that's the cause, swapped the ch1 & ch2 mixing to two random buttons I don't use and it's cleared up. Going download the new firmware because me thinks mine has gremlins in it 😆

I mean overall sounds solid even my Spektrum makes the odd noise. Atleast you can do software updates so hopefully the bugs will be addressed
