T-Maxx Resurrection

Mr Bowcat

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I am in the process of trying to resurrect my old T-Maxx 2.5 that has been languishing in my loft since 2006.

Started the tear down this weekend and immediately realised the piston and sleeve no longer had compression (possibly why it went in the loft almost 20 years ago). Managed to get a new piston and sleeve ordered, but almost 50 quid??

Managed to get some charge into the old battery packs, the receiver turned on but no movement from the servos yet, so that next to be investigated. I'm going to fully charge teh batts first on the off chance there wasn't enough juice.

Also need to get some new filter foam, the original had tuned into a gooey mess.

Blimey you paid a lot for that, anyway when they dry up they can loose compression. A bit of oil will bring it back, saving you £50 😊

I know some people really do try their luck with 2nd hand parts like that. New ones are around £50 so why would anyone really pay more for a 2nd hand one lol.

Anyway, did ya get it going?

Hi Guys,

Finally got out to the workshop over the weekend, got the new piston and sleeve installed and the engine back together.

I got it fired up for a few seconds, unfortunately my 20 year old NIMH stick batts won't hold a charge, I get one good crank out of the EZ start before having to charge again for 20 minutes. Couldn't be bothered with that so will leave it there until the weekend and order a new batt in the meantime.

Nice, I've got some T-maxxes at the moment on the bench, very enjoyable.

Been fiddling with this off an on over the last few days.

Finally managed to get it idling consistently yesterday, I've got as OS carb fitted so getting some base settings was a case of trial and error, and I don't think the cold weather has helped. Even got it moving under it's own power for a little yesterday, but finding it cuts out with only a little throttle, so I'm thinking I'm still running a bit rich.
