HPI Maverick Quantum R Day 2 Issue Already 😭

Recommended Posts

So after just the second pack through this beast I thought it was sliding around more than the first drive due to the wet conditions.

However when I checked on it last night I noticed the front drive cup seemed to be rattling a little too much for my liking. I then realised the front wheels appear to be barely moving unless I get it up to high speed. I assumed the grub nut had come loose so attempted to tighten it without dismantling the whole beast. Still no improvement, is this a common issue and am I going to need to dismantle the whole front section to sort it out or is the issues elsewhere (bearing in mind it’s only had two drives)

Hey, I worked on a mates rally before I got mine (same layout) and this used to happen all the time. Was really frustrating. Anyway best way to sort it is to strip down the gearbox hold the gear in place (see pic) while making sure the drive cup is fully seated. Then I overkilled on the treadlock for the grub screw making sure it was seated on the flat spot then let it set overnight. Never had an issue since. I done this to my own car before I even used it.

While you got the diff out its a good time to put some oil in the as they came with a bit of grease from factory which does nothing for it. I'm sure I went Front 50k - Centre 50k - Rear 20k as that suited my drive style but obviously do whatever suits you

A big thanks again to @bunnie I took my Maverick to bits on my lunch break (I was a little nervous still) but took my time and it was all good and fixed now (it was the grub losing grip). I’ll be putting the recommended parts in with the diff oil (which model sport kindly added to my order this morning to save postage) when they arrive.

I am definitely getting better with experience so thanks to everyone on these forums who have thrown me advice over the past couple of years.

If anyone can provide a picture of the front bumper placement from underneath it would be much appreciated, I think I have it correctly under the main chassis but not 100% sure and can’t find any underside images online.

Was watching TomleyRC with his Review Video

He too experience issues with diffs become over meshed causing noise and it would also cause the front not pull its weight as it binds up....

Threadlock where it can do!

I've seen people now using it on where bearings spin on axles/drive gears to help prevent them from slipping off.....

Seems a cracking truck - espically on 3cell!!

I am going to start my trip into the nerve wracking world of adding oil to diffs tonight. Planned it out and watched a video just need to keep track of which screws go where!

As a statement of the hobby taking over my life I oiled up all three diffs, it was nerve wracking, I thought I’d forgotten where a bit went. I installed the spur protector and it is all working. I’m shocked and relieved. The oiling of the diffs was easy it was the removal of the front and rear one that I found a complete ball ache. Hopefully with everything I have learnt this week next time will be much easier!

How often do you need to re-oil the diffs? This is the first car I own with them as far as I am aware.

Not that I am keen to go through that again soon 😆

It's leaking

The diff blew up!!

About once a year I check the diffs, some I don't even take out just release the drive shafts off the diff and spin the diff cups and go " yup feels like 50k, that'll do" 😀 . As long as no leaking or crunchy sounds you'll be fine.
