Dun2504 Posted January 26 Author Share Posted January 26 Did some work on the carbon roll cage : formed the main rails with 8mm alloy bar sections bonded in at joints. Made up the roof and wing mounts and all the alloy bits. Rear section will be removable on alloy pins for access , made up front angled mounts on the mill , glued cage joiners in with epoxy and drilled and tapped through the lot for hold down bolts. next up is slotting the frames on the mill for mounting brackets for roof, wing and windows. Started working on brake pipe fittings and holders for the shock remote adjusters. Got them fitted , just want to clean up and reprofile the ends of the fronts to match in with the shock tower. Then loads of little jobs and the wheely bar to machine up and fit. Test fitted the old alloy wing while I wait for Taylor to get more carbon ones in stock. Cleaning up the carbon gear cover so it actually fits the back plate. Keeping the green body as the wife cannot tell this from the baja Q shorty she got me for my birthday , which saves me having to tell her how much I have spent on it. Dun2504 Posted February 21 Author Share Posted February 21 Made some more progress on the buggy. Cut out and slotted the rear windows and fitted the cut down back window. Having failed to find a moulded carbon wing , I made one from sections and sheet , clear coated and waiting till clear is hard to cut it back and polish. Just the wheely bar to do now , mountings are cut from 10mm alloy plate, machined up on the mill, sides are going to be 4mm carbon , and I have a couple of light wheels to go on the business end. Carb is a bit of a pain as no choke , had to remove filter and choke with my hand . Think I might invest in one of Taylor's big bore carbs with a choke. Ran it on concrete and put a tank full through it , then spent half a day cleaning it again. Dun2504 Posted March 1 Author Share Posted March 1 Hi , Thanks. To be honest I would rather not think about it , though I did make quite a few of the parts myself, so that saved some money. I will use it , but in nice dry conditions on nice soft grass. My baja Q shorty gets the most abuse , goes realy well with a rovan 36 in it with one ring only.
