What Lipo battery and charger / RB10 RTR

I bought a cheapie FTX Tracer MT and whilst it was blindingly fast it’s a bit skittish and I’d like something a bit more planted and refined. I found things like the servo is near impossible to replace with something better and the combined esc / receiver is also a limiting factor.

So I’ve sold the tracer already and ordered the Team Associates RB10 RTR.

It’s mostly for messing about with at the local tarmac pump / bmx track and relatively flat surfaces. A mate does some 2wd buggy racing so I might see if I could very occasionally pop along and join him - whilst appreciating I’ll be at the slow end vs the much more expensive mid motor stuff with fancy kit in it.

I haven’t ordered a Lipo battery and charger yet - it’s all I need to get uk and running.

The car is 3s compatible and it will either take a long stick style battery or a shorty lipo pack with a foam spacer that I believe comes with the kit.

I guess with the rear motor you want weight with the battery as far forward as you can get to offset the rearward weight of the motor.

What should I be looking at please - it will need to be hard case on the off chance I pop along to run round a track but otherwise I have no idea what capacity I should be looking at or what charger is required.

Given lipos can be dangerous I’d like something from a reputable brand and supplies within the uk.

Any pointers much appreciated!

How much you willing spend ? Skyrc do some nice chargers that a few use on this forum. I use HOTA chargers bit more pricy but I like the compactness of them 🙂

CNHL Lipo Battery UK Warehouse — ChinaHobbyLine :- CNHL lipos are a cracking deal if you can find the ones you want in there UK warehouse stock.

LiPo Battery for RC Planes, Cars and More - HobbyKing : - these are good lipos had few last year and still going strong.

Gens ace are available in most uk model shops I believe can be pricey lipos.

These are the ones I have experience with and all the lipos are still working ok 👍

Thanks both - am I right in understanding I need 7.4v batteries?

Assume in terms of capacity anything between 3000-5000mah would have a decent runtime?

Whats the **C rating on batteries - seem to range from 25-40c on a lot of the ones I’m looking at?

I did read a chunk of the stickied guide but couldn’t see that explanation.

Just to close this off if anyone is looking in future I’ve gone for:

SkyRC Neo s100 - this has its own built in power supply as well as ability to take in DC power so I decided it was an easier option than the Neo 6B I was initially looking at which needed a seperate power supply.

Went with the suggestion of Zeee batteries - gone for a hard case stick battery - 5200mah and 3s / 80c which ought to be fairly punchy I’d imagine.

If I decide to do some casual racing on the odd occasion I believe I’ll need to pickup a couple of 2s batteries for that.

The higher the C rating gives more punch from standing start and car will accelerate quicker

However thats at expense of runtime as it allows more power to be taken from the battery

Thanks - I’m trying to get my head round all this stuff! So different from the late 90’s when it was brushed motors and Nicads.

Going to get a few different pinion gears to play with as well - as standard apparently it’s a very small pinion and so it’s worth getting a bigger one. Just have to keep an eye on how hot the motor gets.

if you dont already have 1 it might be worth investing in an infrared temp device

something like this

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/dynamite-infrared-temp-gun-thermometer-w-laser-sight-408709

there are other cheaper 1's out there and i have 2 or 3 kicking about the house and tool boxes

On c rating I get the biggest as I can get within my budget, lipo manufacturers like to over exaggerate the c rating on there lipos to make them sound better than they are 🙈.

Bigger c rating more stress the battery can take before going flat that's the take away I get from reading up on it. Less voltage sag on hard acceleration and can recover better from full throttle bursts.
