First Build Advice, what I need?

Recommended Posts

Hi all once again. Now with one boat and two brushless buggies I am starting to get the itch again and have been considering doing a build after my experience of my FTX Bugsta upgrades.

i was purely after information on what I would need.

I am looking at

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/tamiya-escort-mkii-rally-mf-01x-1334538

I understand I’d need the following:

Paint, screwdriver, knife, paints and a servo, transmitter and receiver.

Can you advise what I should look for in a servo, I know strength or a factor but for this type of build, what’s a reasonable strength?

Tool for making post holes.

Are there any other tools required?

Do I need glue? Is this like airfix cement glue?

Is there anything else not obvious?

Thank you.

You don't really need anything specific. But some good screwdrivers are worthwhile. I think it is JIS standard you need.

I have a Tamiya set, which has been good for their kits.

For a servo these are great value and quite speedy:

Paints, the Tamiya PS paints work well. Don't get the TS paints for polycarbonate though.

In terms of Transmitter & Receiver. Do some research. A programmable Tx is highly advised and one that can support multiple models. But check out how much extra Rx's are. Some makes very expensive, some a lot cheaper. I use a Flysky system as an Rx is only about £8 each. Some other makes might be £40-50 for an Rx.

Kind of related as looking at options for receivers.

As an example, could I add one of these

https://www.seriousrc.co.uk/products/mjx-hyper-go-r30-receiver-fits-16207-16208-16209-16210-part-numbe-r30?_pos=13&_sid=6f94927b2&_ss=r

to my FtX Bugsta so that I can switch to using just the one transmitter or are there any compatibility issues (this is using the MJX transmitter for both my MJX and the Bugsta).

I’ve read a lot about have the right receiver for the transmitter but can’t find anything other than number of channels for compatibility to the vehicle?

You will need a transmitter that will support more than one model, which as far as i know the MJX transmitter will not do

Hve a look at something like the Dumbo RC DDF 350

I had been looking at that exact transmitter. When it comes to the receivers other than channels and whether I want gyro (not atm) is there any difference other than size between mini receiver and others?

Also re MJX if I am happy to adjust trims each time would it not work to use an additional MJX transmitter on my Bugsta?

thanks

The dumbo mini receivers don’t use standard connectors. Go for the x6fg. You can turn the gyro off if you don’t want it.

you could buy another mjx receiver but you will need to pair it and set it up to each vehicle every time you swap over.

I'm not familiar with MJX, but if it is a ready to run transmitter, I'd say probably not. Most RTR Tx's are rather cheap nasty things with limited abilities. That can only bind to one Rx at a time.

A multi model programable Tx will be able to bind to multiple Rx's and store different model profiles, such as trim settings, channel reversal etc. Plus offer dual rates, throttle curves, and things like ABS braking.

I don't have this, but this is probably the kind of thing to look at or research. Supports 20 models (you'd need extra Rx's...) and is programmable.
