I got 4 of them as I was worried if one goes it will take the rest with it!

Yes that was something i pondered over over when buying this big 1, but just thought overall this was a neater solution to have in the house

Here is a linky to what i bought, i decided to put the holes under the metal lip of the box so the box could still breathe but minimise the flame thrower effect

i've got an old school steel tool box and ammo can buy they just get used for winter storage for all the batteries (to save misplacing a pack), most of ours sit in a lipo bag or on the bench the rest of the time as if i do ever have one go id like to limit the damage (i've been fire free since my first lipo in 2008 so touch wood im doing something right)

Out of interest, how many lipos are people seeing go pop...? I never had an issue at all with mine. Now I'm getting back into the hobby again, I'm wondering how often they go off... if they are catching fire a lot, why is that? Poor build quality these days? (I would've thought the quality would've been better now)

Not had any go pop bang oww! my face!! it burns type disasters, I always check for damage on my lipos before charge and after but I have had two puff up on me after storage charge and when I came back to them a week later they ballooned quite nice 😅. At the moment they sit discharged in a bucket of sand in the back garden.

Both lipos were traxxas lipos a 6700mah 4s & 2200mah 2s ..not cheap to see go puff after a year of use 🙄 could of been luck of the draw that's all as the other traxxas stuff been fine 🤷‍♂️.

I've only seen 2 in person but they were stored in hot vehicles but they were first gen lipos, I've shorted one and puffed a cell (my fault it's not a good idea to check cell voltages with big multimeter probes) and i puffed one trying to recover it but never a fire in use or charging,

I think the main problem people have is they trust the max c ratings too much 2 hours to charge a pack is too slow for most and I'm sure none have checked the power draw on their rigs especially when they put bigger wheels and pinions on

Also people buy the cheap lipos expecting the performance of the slightly more expensive ones (prime example zee 5500s some change to 6000+ which is a red flag to me)

I’ve not had any fires but I have chucked a battery already because it was damaged from bashing. Will be sticking with hard case lipos for the skate park bashers from now on.

Yeah hard cases do add a tad more protection, will keep that in mind 🙂 Just noticed you're based in Eastleigh, not too far from me (Andover) have you got somewhere good to run near you?

Haha that's good then! Oh, I bet that was a bit scary 😕 hopefully they won't go off, but at least they're in sand 🙂 Ouch, that was expensive then 😞

Good advice there, thanks for the tips. I'll be checking mine carefully when I get some more 🙂

OK so it seems like not that many go off then really, Just need to be careful and safe with them (as I was in the past) and should be good to go. Thanks all 🙂

There’s a few skate parks around. The one I go to most is called ‘free space’ and is in chandlers Ford. The ramps are plastic so a bit more forgiving than concrete. There’s also a dirt jump track there for the bigger stuff. I got speaking to the guys building the jumps a while ago and they said there’s no problem using rc’s up there just not ‘race’ ones?! Essentially they just don’t want people chewing the track up. He even said they’d entertain the idea of a RC club or events up there.

Good to know, thanks. I might see you around one day then, my sister lives in Chandlers Ford, could be a 'good' excuse to 'visit' her haha
