Yeah that was the CNHL one. The main issue is that if you're even slightly too high, you can't close the battery tray anymore (unlike in rigs like Kratons etc where you have a strap as opposed to a bar that clicks in), so better be save than sorry.

I think that's the correct adaptor, yeah.

That Sunpadow or whatever, nah. I personally wouldn't humour that pack (especially not from Amazon) - but i didn't recommend it, so @Stormbringer has to vouch here. 😄

I wouldn't know, i'm german. Nobody is happy there. Just efficient. 😁

OK no worries, thanks. I might risk it and get one to try/test as they're 'cheap'. If it doesn't fit I can either return it or sell it on 🙂

Hahaha fair enough!

I have a couple of Sunpadow packs and they are a couple of years old now and still going but I do prefer the Zeee brand as they seem to have more punch over the Sunpadow

OK thanks, I'll keep digging then 🙂

Again, I appreciate the effort/time taken by you guys to reply/advise me - thanks! 🙂

186 mm L x 48 mm W x 43 mm H

That is the battery tray dimensions from the the taxxxas website for the maxx so any battery under that should fit 🙂.

You get some soft foams and a few foam blocks to help fit smaller lipos plus a battery clamp adaptor that helps to fit smaller lipos.

Don't say Traxxas don't give us nothing 😆

Nice one Daz, thanks 🙂

Love a bit of 'free' foam! 😉

Apologies for another noob question, but if I was to get these, would I also need to get new wheels or will they work/fit with the standard wheels?

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/hot-racing-aluminium-17mm-splined-hubs-10mm-set-black-for-traxxas-maxx-1352979

The reason I ask is because I was looking at the exploded view and it says the nut is a 5mm and has a weird washer as well, so would the 17mm nuts be too big? I think I'm getting confused...!

It looks like they fit over the standard drive shafts so should be fine and the Maxx wheels have a little washer you pop out so you can fit 17mm hubs no need for new wheels 🙂. You making it a wide wide Maxx ? 😃

So I bit the bullet and got a Widemaxx on Friday, was a busy weekend so I only got to run it yesterday. It went pretty well, I thought it was surprisingly drivable on 4S after being out of the game for so long, I thought it might have been a bit of a handful so we just took it to my local playing field to get used to the handling (no jumps yet!) but it was all good. A few roll overs, but nothing too serious. Do many people use the built in driver aid on the transmitter? (I've forgotten its official name!) Does it make much of a difference? I didn't really play with that setting much, just left at the 12 'o clock position.

Thought it put up a couple of pics, I know you guys have seen them a 1000 times, but here's mine 😉

I might make a post in the Maxx owners thread too 🙂

Aye I use the TSM when ripping about helps keep it in a straight line but if your jumping try and turn it off as it makes the wheels turn mid air which ends up in crashes 😅. I have found anything under 50% the steering gets unresponsive unless you turn it off then its ok but no TSM then, strange bug unless its just my maxx being an arse 🤷‍♂️😃

Once your use to it try it turned off then its all down to driver skill to keep it going, its fun learning to drift without driving aids 🙂

Also I don't use the self right as it chewed up a spur gear on first use but that was probably because of the loose spur gear cover but it scared me off using it 😆. You might have no problems with it.

TSM, that's the one, thanks 🙂

Ahh OK, that's a good tip and useful to know when jumping, thanks. I'll have to remember to turn it off. Haha that's a weird one then regarding the steering, I'll have to see if mine does the same.

Yeah when I've got a bit more time I'll have a proper play with it and adjust settings etc, for the first run I just wanted to get some practice in and get used to driving them again.

Oh right, that must have been annoying! Weirdly I couldn't get my self righting to work at all, I might have been doing something wrong though.

Oh also, I went for the sunpadow Lipo off Amazon (against the recommendations!) I just got one and thought I'd risk it as it was 'cheap'. It just about fits in the tray with the battery clamp, but it is a tight squeeze, probably a bit too big TBH. I'll try one of the CNHL ones next I think. My actual birthday is at the end of the month, so I'll ask for a couple of those then and run with what I've got for now, they seem to do the job alright

Hi all,

As some of you may be aware from my other thread, I recently got a new V2 Wide Maxx last Friday.

After seeing a few reviews mention it having a soft rear end, I'm inclined to agree with them after dropping it from less than waist height and hearing the rear chassis hit our wooden floor... so, what do people recommend to upgrade with? I've heard people say 'just put thicker oil in', but to me that doesn't sound right, surely you need to change the actual springs, but to what? I've been out of the game for about 15 years, so I'm slowly getting me head back round everything and how stuff works again so please bear with me! Haha.

Are these 'better' than the stock springs, or are they the same?

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/traxxas-springs-shock-natural-finish-gt-maxx-1725-rate-2--445824

Are these a decent upgrade and would I need them front and rear, or just stick with one set for the rear? Also, what WT shock oil should I use in them?

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/pro-line-powerstroke-shocks-for-traxxas-maxx-f-r-2--1342332

Also, how is this set an 'upgrade'? What's the benefit of it?

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/traxxas-maxx-suspension-pin-set-complete-hardened-steel--443550

Apologies for all the questions, but I thought I'd ask the experts on here that have actual experience with the truck, rather than try to decipher 50 random's opinions on Youtube... 🙂

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

Hi all, not had a nibble yet on my post in the Maxx thread, so thought I'd quote it over here as you guys have been kind enough to reply before 🙂

Anyone got any advice/recommendations on the above please?

I went to a skatepark the other day and it was definitely hammering the back end on landings 😞

All I did was thread the spring adjuster on the shocks all the way down on the back when doing daft jumps, its meant to chassis slap that helps it distribute the impact I believe 🤔 so your shocks don't get a hammering. I know what you mean it sounds horrible chassis slapping on hard surfaces.

Maybe stiffer springs or thicker fluid in the shocks?. On the last rebuild of my maxx think I whacked in 70wt front and 90wt back and used stock springs with next to no preload on the shock collars, for me it still handles well and lands smoother still slaps like **** but its better 😆.

Be warned skate parks / BMX pump tracks will kill your truck in some way landing on concrete and slamming into metal does wonders for splitting the diff cases open and making the arms pop off, its fun but know landing on grass don't think I have ever broke anything.

Oh right Daz, that's interesting that it's supposed to do that 😕 they should've done something to protect those 4 screws underneath at the rear then, because they are going to get destroyed as that's where it always seems to land 😂

I'll try changing the springs I think, I'm just not sure which are the stiffer ones lol. Don't suppose I could ask you for a link please?

Yeah I don't plan on running there often, I just thought I'd go and see what it was like. You guys were right, it is a pretty tough truck OOTB. It took a couple of bad landings (driver error!) but carried on like it was nothing. I do have a slightly wonky right rear wheel now though, so it looks like something got a bit bent. Not had a chance check it out yet. TBH still had a lot of fun just ragging it up and down the playing field at full whack 😂

Yip them screws get mashed up well good 😅, think the rear skid plate on my maxx is held in by three screws the fourth is smashed flat into the plastic it's still holding and doing it's job I think 😃. Try and put a little bit of super glue on the threads of the skid guard screws should help with them backing out too soon and get lost in the grass.

I got these from GPM only because I was buying stuff for another truck and they might come in handy. After putting in thicker shock juice the stiffer springs made it handle like ****, probably best try stiffer springs first see how you like the handling then maybe up the shock oil. I am no expert on shock tuning probably best giving it a goggle the maxx is a popular truck gotta be folks posting the set ups they have for shocks etc.

They don't make it super clear which is front or back, I just put the softer feeling ones on the front when I tried them.

@Kpowell911 on here used some different springs on his Maxx, think from memory they were VG Racing, but check the Maxx thread, he mentions them in there.

Yea I use VG Racing Springs and Vitavon Shock collars which give you more pre load. Not a cheap solution mind
