Just a good job were in the U.K then….

I like the idea of a free repair/replace though, good for them.

it covers a couple of my rc (unless U.K. purchases are exempt), job for the weekend then i guess….

I don't understand why they didn't put the UK on the list. People order rc's from all over the world to the UK. It also covers replacement parts in packets, must be the same packets which are sold worldwide. No way the same stuff hasn't been sold in the UK.

Was emailed this from a shop I bought from ages ago.

Traxxas issued a health warning but it might end up being other manufacturers also.

wow.... just shows how places don't learn!!

There is a reason Abestos was nuked because its dangerous!

I watched a family member loose his life to Mestholioma (spelling correct?) but yeah he went from a hard solid guy to been "poorly" and suddenly becoming a bag of bones before his body gave up in a matter of 6months!

and then how it literally destroyed his family! They are slowly getting on in life, but 1 of his kids doesn't wanna talk/hides/totally shutdown at times cause the trauma haunts her!

I had the pleasure (as hard as it was) to carry him along with my brothers locked in arms to carry him home

I'm not gonna lie, it hurts I'm weaping now, as I remember it well and how I've now carried 3 members ""home"" way before there times

One been my mum recently

Mesothelioma is NO JOKE

I did wonder this... That stuff is over here in the UK! I can quiet easily say this!

just because we aint part of the EU means we're excluded...

How long before we get a warning....

I have a rustler with those 5552x pads which it says are affected. But my serial number and the usb-c charger would suggest it’s not affected. So are 5552x pads after a certain date ok?

So how are the recalls going work? traxxas going pay hobby shops to fix the problem or expect us to do it 🙄. Seeing how UK not on the list we get shafted, must be all that old colonial british hatred at work 😅

  • 3 months later...

I forgot to post at the time but I jumped on this early and got it resolved last November.

For me it was straight forward as J Perkins happen to be in Lenham which is only about 40 minutes away.  I didn't fancy trying to box up my Slash and managed to have them agree in advance for me to drop it off and wait while it was fixed.

At the time the guy said I was only about the 2nd person to contact them about it but I guess they might now have a bit of an influx.

They were really helpful though but can still see this being a massive headache for everyone involved.

What did they do exactly?

For mine they removed and replaced the pads.  I assumed it might have been a complete new slipper assembly, but they just swapped pads on my existing one.

I wonder if they were wearing full hazmat suits, air masks, and vacuumed the RC and the work area afterwords.  Probably should have done if they were following guidelines.

That is something I can't say for sure!

To be honest I was going to open up the rear clip at some point in the better weather and give it a bit of a clean outside with some kind of mask just to be sure.

Is there any chance of getting the new pads and replacing ourselves??

it can be done outside with gloves and a mask, main reason is we have potentially 5 rc that are in need of this recall, now for what thats going to cost to post, i can have the parts here and done myself (yes, i am competent enough to do this) cheaper.

or i too would have to travel to wherever they would need repairing and also wait with them so to speak.

just something else to go through……

on a side note, Traxxas have done the right thing though, it’s definitely going to be costly!!!

Just got to make sure that we aren't replacing like for like. Probably going to take a while until all the affected spare parts are removed from circulation in shops.  eBay sellers etc are very likely to keep selling the recalled parts unknowingly. I'm guessing that safe parts will have a revised part number.

My serial number on my rustler suggests it’s safe but I still have that part number listed in the manual. So they must have changed the material but kept the part number the same.

Reality is it’s a tiny amount of asbestos. So long as you don’t chew on them I’m sure you’ll be fine!

Thankfully my 3 crawlers arnt in the list for this but Yrkoon might have 2 or 3 that are 😞

yeh deffo my bandit and possibly the rustler we bought from pieman here, he was speed running it so he might of replaced the slipper, no idea lol

i do not have a habit of sniffing slippers so should be fine as they are the 2 models i have rarely opened up the gear box for as they just work 🙂
