Making steering less twitchy (Tamiya TT-02)

In the next few weeks, I am going to buy my first RC car.

It will likely be a TT-02, as I want 4WD. Specifically, I will probably get the Tamiya 58682 ('1991 Audi V8 Touring').

I know I will need to buy a radio, receiver, servo, battery and battery charger.

RC cars tend to be twitchy, from what I can tell, when you steer left and right. However, I want mine to be smoother - almost like a real car.

To do this, am I looking for anything specific when I choose the radio, receiver and/or servo, or do they all allow this option?

Transmitter with gyro receiver will help keep it straight.

I use this and you can set the gyro strength in fine increments with the little twisty knob plus the thing has loads of other features if you ever need them. Cracking bit of kit for the cash 🙂

Thank you, @Partydaz, I appreciate it.

Do you know if that controller work with the Maverick Quantum RX Flux 4S?

Would there be any benefit to using it over what comes with the car?

It's the receiver it has to be compatible with not sure if the one in the hpi will be. Seeing how it comes with a transmitter and receiver see if you like it first you can always upgrade later on 🙂.

The Dumbo comes with a receiver you just have to make sure you pick the one with a receiver that has a gyro.

That Rx flux looks like a very nice bit of kit was looking at one for myself it's really good value for money.

Just move your hand slower when you turn the wheel on the controller?  The problem is the weight ratio of the scale of the car.  If you say a standard V8 Audi weighs 2 tonnes.  Then a model 1/10th of that should really weight 200Kg and they just don't.  That's why they looks so bouncy and twitchy when you drive them

Thank you for all of your responses; it is appreciated it.

In the end, I decided not to go with a Tamiya RC car.

When my new car arrives, I will see how twitchy it is. I know there are many servo upgrades for it to make handling more responsive but as you can imagine from my original post, I may prefer stock if it's a little sluggish.

+1 for the DumboRC radio. Buy a bunch of x6fg receivers and put them in any car you like.

My typhon grom was very twitchy after putting 3s in it. The dumbo allows you to set custom throttle and steering curves. This along with the gyro made the car much more manageable. Only negative I’ve found with the dumbo is the signal occasionally dropping out.
