Fair do’s to you guys, good that you can eat what you catch too. Me personally, that would bore me to tears sat fishing, never seen any appeal to it other than the film Jaws.

is fishing for you guys as addictive as rc??

Multipliers/baitcaster reels can be tricky to master if you havnt used them before and also need a heavier lure to get them working right 15 grammes and up

also you need to do a smooth cast with and when lure/weight hits water stop the spool with your thumb

if its got magnetic brakes set them to just over 1/2 way and as you get used to it start knocking the brakes back a click at a time till line starts to lift of spool slightly when your casting but always keep a wee bit brake on

most of my life i was big on fishing but last 10 years not been, seems i lost my mojo, i did 2 seasons on a very old lake chasing a 35 pound common carp, never got it but used to enjoy spending a few days in the bivvy just waiting for a bite alarm to  to start beeping

@Stormbringer, nice selection of reels, looks like they are proper quality items :good:

its funny, my old man used to go sea fishing out of Whitby with a group he used to work with, he brought loads home every time too, since then he tried fishing off one of the cliffs in Newquay, all he caught was a £80 parking ticket, he was in a foul mood all evening and still doesn't like it being brought back up

He sees the rc hobby as an absolute waste of money, that's why he has never bought me one…..he likes playing with wood, he has made some good stuff over the years but his specialty is a 4 legged milking stool, he has sold tons of those.

It’s all good though its what keeps the old ball spinning :good:

But about 6 weeks ago a couple of them came up on Ebay so i got them and really enjoy using them really nice fishing reels :good:

@Stormbringer

Nothing fancy mate. I'm not sure if I'll like them so I got a cheap one of amazon.

It's small for the canals and rivers nearby.

Cheapo reel Cheapo reel Cheapo reel

I've got a few shimano reels, spinning reels and baitrunners.

I picked up a couple of cheap spinning reels from amazon and I was surprised, they were lovely and smooth.

Yeah, I agree. I really need to give it a go.

My missus got me on to the braid. It's great for spinning.

im still relearning and learning new things from dad and the internet after stopping for about 20 years , such a chilled hobby and when time is closing in its almost like gambling , one more cast one more cast this will be the one lol

a local shop is closing down and has every thing cept for bait on 50% off so dad picked me up and him self some wee fox rage spinning reels and today i spent 32 quid and got a slightly bigger leeda spinning reel and a shakespeare telescopic spinning rod 20-50 gram casting weight that i can easy strap to my bike and have a go on canals or other random local places and mix up 2 hobbies 🙂

they had a abu garcia from 200 to 99 quid a wee small multiplier that tempted me but i snapped myself out the temptation 😛

I had a 1 on 1 fly fishing guide for a day about 3 weeks ago, really enjoyed it.

I think I prefer normal coarse(?) fishing though, probably because it doesn't involve wading into the water but I did love the motion of casting with fly fishing, it felt more immersive.

I'm tempted to get some kit when I've decided which route to go down.
